This winter when I was ridding hard some chunks blew out of the 1 year old 8DN belt. Immediately I installed the spare one and then run it for less than a mile before I remove the handbrake brake. :o|

The next weekend I installed the new 8DN. I noticed the engagement is 4500rpm and top speed is at 8800rpm. Visually the belt sits higher on the secondary but I will measure to see if it's within the +1.5mm specs.

While I do this I plan on changing the original red secondary spring and YWY primary spring just for a refresh.

The sled is full stock, no spikes and I weight 185lbs. The secondary will be replaced with a new red spring. The primary it seems where theres is an after-market clutch setup posted here most of you recommends the WWW. It has an engagement of 4200rpm which is higher than the stock's 4000rpm.

My question is this, should I replace with another stock YWY or go with a WWW for my stock SRX700?

Thanks in advance guys.

I am new to clutch setups but from what I have read on this site about clutch setups is you need to change all of the components to get the desired performance. I am in the process of changing my 2000 SRX clutching to:
stock weights loaded with two 4.5 gram rivets, the WWW primary spring, the stock RX-1 helix and the green secondary spring wound to 60 degrees. There is a lot of good reports on this setup and I needed to change the springs anyway at 11,00 miles. I would not change the primary spring to just to get a higher engagement speed.

That engagement is a little high for trail riding. Pick up a black secondary spring with a green mark on it and put it at 70 twist. The red spring is too soft.

The www spring with 8DN-20's full of 4.5 rivets works very well. Pick up a 51/43 helix and set that green spring at 70.

This set-up works very well. I also noticed better mileage when my engagement wasnt so high.

w-w-w will give the same engagement rpm,s as the stock primary spring & lower your over all rpm,s by 1-200. I prefer a steeper helix with that set up like a 53/43.

The 51/43 with a green spring will overrev. You need to get something with a little more angle on the helix. I used a 53/44 with good results with a red sec. spring. 4.5g's in both holes of the 8DN-20's with a new WWW spring. That setup rocks the house.

How much you weigh Yamaholic? I am about 200 all suited up.

I finally got the correct set-up from mrviper and it pulled 8500 8600 all day. I have never felt a better clutch set-up before. Hey.. every sled is different. Now I gotta kill that DCS light which is a different story.

I'm about 205 with all my gear on, so about the same as you. Yea when I ran a 51/43 (RX) it would overrev. 8800 or so with green spring, 8700 or so with red. Could've either added washers to rivets in primary or go to a steeper helix. Already had a steeper helix so that's what I went with and it worked great.

It's also important to note that tach's on these things aren't always accurate. Getting them calibrated probably isn't a bad idea if you are really critical about running exact rpms. Yamaha's are usually better than the rest, but then look at the 2006 R6's....

Mine over revved 2 years ago the same as yours did. I had all the mentioned clutching except the stock primary spring was in it with a 4MM shim. That was the only deviation from the set-up mrviper gave me.

Oh and yes, the belt deflection was terribly loose. I got it nice and snug to where it ALMOST wants to squeel. I put the WWW in and pulled the shim out, adjusted the belt deflection. It fixed my over rev for me and runs like it should now.

Can you get up to the first MUNI ride this January?

Man I sure would like to. I'm really going to try hard to do that this year. I have been saying for a couple years now that I wanted to hit the first one but it seems like something always comes up that week. Now i'm moving to Iowa in a couple weeks so it's a bit more of a drive, but should have more vacation time.

Thanks for all your help guys. This being my first year all I did was running on the river. Mind you mostly all hi speed. Perhaps next year I'll give the trails a try.

I'll start with the WWW and go from there. Lost of options posted here to go from. thanks

Some of you mentions the 4.5g rivets for weights. From the specs sheet it says stock I have 8dn-20 w/17.2 & 13.9 ?

just drill out the small (13.9) rivets and install a 4.5 rivet in each weight. You can peen the narrow end over with a hammer. I use a rivet removal to drill and peen over.

In the past I got away with holding it over a vice. Pick up that helix and green spring. Sled will run good.

Changing inner rivet & primary spring & keeping secondary stock should work well.
