how much difference is there between a 96 and 97 vmax 600 motor?can the 97 be made to rip or will the 96 outperform it.thanks tom
They are essentially the same thing. Some of the 96's had the earlier cylinders/reed cages in them and some had the 97+ style. Other than that the only difference would be in the head gasket thicknesses from year to year. The 97+ cylinders have 4 bolt cages and have the triple exhaust ports and the rear boost port. The earlier cylinders don't (6 bolt reed cages).
The 97 can be woke big time compared to stock.
Thin head gasket,carbon tech reeds,and some clutching they will out run STOCK 97 sx 700 tripples.

thanks,exactly what i was looking for.will pipes from a 96 work on a 97 motor?its going in a different chassis so i know ill have to rework but other than chassis fit r they the same?

Well the biggest difference is the 97 and ups have triple exhaust ports, they will always make more power.
Also the 96 600 used 38 MM carbs and the 97 used 36 MM carbs.

but will pipes from a 96 have the same tuned length and work on a 97 ?i know chassis fit is different and would need flanges from a 97 but anything else?
