Coming to a cross roads in my life. I am being forced from our family home in that I can no longer maneuver the steps safely. My wife and I have talked about a few places. My daughter, also my youngest, leaves home for school this fall. Employment isn't an issue, we would prefer a warmer climate, we still want all the seasons and we don't want to live in a retirement community. So where would you guys go?

North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee are a few of the states we have talked about, and nothing about specific towns/cities. Although I do think we would prefer a rural area.

houlton was always a place my family came growing up to shop and to go the parade and fair on the 4th. I ended up going to school north of here. I drove through every weekend for a few years. I didnt really get to know houlton and the people that lived here till i opened a buisness here. It is a great communinty. Active rotary, large communinty band, great parks and rec, hospital, rivers, lakes, interstate, even a walmart. Large snowmbile and atv trail systems. Lots of hunting and fishing.

Lived 18 years out west, mostly rural. Once you live a while in the mountain states, you will wonder how you ever enjoyed the east.

Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana all have a number of great areas.

Why in the world am I still stuck in the east ? ? ?
 
I'm guessing it has to be USA, sorry I only been in Chicago, Michigan, North dakota. So I can't help but if you ever consider outside the US, I might be able to point a few interesting places.....Nick

My dream when growing up was Colorado, because my Dad lived in Northern BC and my Mother in Onatrio, i have always loved the mountains and SNOW. Colorado was half way for both of them to visit me. I saw this yesterday on the 4Stroke side. My favorite time of year is Winter and to be able to do this all in 1 day would be the decision maker for me.

I am lucky, I am there!!

Bend, OR, at the base of the Cascade mtns. Winters are mild, havent seen anything below zero in 23 years, snow in the mtns, can still ride the sleds for another month!!

Anuual rain fall here 10-12", low humidity, cool evenings due to altitude. ;)!

Want to see the Pacific ocean, 3 hour drive, want the high desert, 20 minutes, want culture in big city, Portland, 3 hours away.

Have traveled the US, all states but AK, thorughout Canada etc. Love it here.
Down side, EXPENSIVE, or as some say, it can be "poverty with a view" LOL. :bump:
 
There is some nice easy living areas in TN and Kn. We have Businsess friends in both states. They have a vey laid back way of life. 2 days there are a real refresher. Me, I'd move to the UP, and apply for the job of Hondo Jr. LOL Maxdlx
 
I should have anticipated the responses here. :) there is snow here, snow there, can still ride here.... hahaha. I have looked a lot closer at the Kentucky, Tennessee areas. We are talking about taking a trip down there to check it out.

I just can't hang with the whole winter thing anymore. The last couple winters up here have really beat my ***. I will miss the snowmobiles and the ability to walk out my back door and go ride.
