Checking over some parts this past weekend and I weighed a brand new set of HC weights and brand new set of 8bu's - one of the HC's were a full gram lighter than the other two and each one of the 8bu's was different by about a half a gram - I've never had any weights with this kind of difference - I've heard about grinding some off but how do you know where to grind? :dunno:

I HAVE SEEN ABOUT THAT DEFFERENCE IN 8BU. I STILL USED THEM WITH NO ISSUES. NOW A FULL GRAM ALOT. DUDE, I WOULD RUN ODD ONE UNDER BELT SANDER UNDERNEATH WEIGHT. GET IT TO WITH,IN 1/2 OF THE OTHER ONES AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

So try to take it off the full length of the weight? - that makes sense - I agree, 1 gram is alot - the other two are spot on - thought about calling them, but they can be hard to reach sometimes!!

ALL MY CLICKERS ARE CLOSE. SET IN MY 2000 WERE RIGHT ON. I SCREWED ALOT WITH THEM BECAUSE I CUT NOTCH IN THEM FOR 5000 ENGAGEMENT AND THATS SENDS WEIGHT IN A FRENZY. LIKE YOU SAY JUST RUN BACK SIDE LEVEL ON A BELT SANDER, THAT WILL BRING IT BACK AROUND. GOOD POINT ABOUT CALLING THEM . THEY PROBLEY LIKE TO KNOW THAT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Send em back

If it were me, I'd send the HC's back and tell Randy to send me a set that all weigh the same. There is no reason anyone should have to deal with that kind of inconsistancy in a brand new "top of the line" clutch weight.

Me too

Yeah, I've seen it too. I sent them back and told him to send me a set that all weighed the same.......which he did.

Next you'll start adding weight and figure out that each bolt and washer are slightly different too. You'd better get them to send you a matched set of those too. I just mix and match bolts and washers to balance the three out. Your going to end up chasing your tail either way. I do agree that a full gram is a little much though.

Who cares about the bolts

It's a hell of a lot easier to grind a little off a bolt to make them all match than it is to grind on the weight itself. As he said....you would have no way of knowing where on the weight to grind to get them all the same

lol, now thats funny! So because the weight comes directly from Super Torquer (heel clicker) and they weigh the same when put on a scale... that means the weight is distributed identically on each one? OK boss!

Obviously I'm of no help here. Was just trying to same the guy some time.

TAKE THE BACK SIDE OF THE WEIGHT, THE LENGTH OF THE BACK SIDE AND TOUCH IT OFF AGINST A BELT SANDER. ALL YA NEED TO DO. BEEN DOING THIS FOR THIRTY YEARS. ALL YA NEED IS GRAM SCALE !!! REALLY NO BIG DEAL. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tany is absolutely right

If you want to take care of it yourself the best way to do it would definately be Tony's way. My point, however, is that you should not have to do that with a brand new set of weights.

Im not even going into the bolt and washer issue since obviously all Yamerdown wants to do is argue with me......again.

Nope, didn't want to argue the first time. Just pointing out that two things weighing the same amount in no way makes them equal. One might weigh 0.1g more on the tip and the other 0.1g more on the heel. Putting the weight on a gram scale won't tell you that. So grinding some off the length of the weight is no more or less accurate then getting weighs from Heel Clicker that all weighed the same in the first place. Hopefully you can appreciate that? I can certainly appreciate your point, which is the fact quality control should have caught the problem before they ever went out the door.

So grinding the weights and making them all the same is the best we can ever hope for. In fact if you send the unmatched set back to them I'd be willing to bet they will grid them to be equal and resell them.

FYI - I also measure each bolt/washer combo before they go into the weight to make sure each one of them is equal for each weight. And then when I'm done I put each assembled weight on the scale and check them again to make sure all the 0.0001gs haven't caught up we me making one +/-0.1g compared to the others.

So respectfully I'm going to have to agree with you 100% on this one Matt. I just wouldn't waste my time sending them back. Especially with my luck... the second set would be off by even more, lol.

Matt I hope you didn't feel this was directed at you? If it was I would have quoted your post if it was. Point was where do you stop?

Tony - have you ever had one off by a whole gram? - I would feel more comfortable sanding them if it was only off by less than 1/2 a gram, but if anyone has had one off this far I'll go for it - I've tried 4 or 5 times to call them and I don't get an answer - didn't they use to be in Michigan? - I see their address is Minnesota now?!?! - a washer weighs a gram!!!

I think we agree this time

Yamerdown......I agree with you 100%!!! Can you believe it! I do the same thing with the nuts and bolts....just not to the extent that you do. If I get all the weights to within .1 I'm happy. True....the issue is quality controll at HC. All they would have to do to resolve this issue is stand there with a gram scale when they package the weights. This way they could easily ship them all to within a certain tollerance....hopefully a lot closer that 1 gram! Once I broke the shoulder off one when a belt broke. I bought one new one from Randy and it weighed 2 grams more the the ones I already had. Clearly this issue was due to them being from a different production run and I did not fault Randy for this. I just ground the new one down like Tony said and ran it!
