Just was thinking about how many people are going to stay at home this weekend because gas prices are so friggin high? Seems like alot of people I talk to are going to be enjoying bonfires in there own backyards this year, nothing wrong with it, but it shouldn't have to be that way if you want to go up north or somewhere. Makes ya wonder what the folks up north and in the U.P are gonna live on with low tourist income because of the economy?
 
The picture is not a good one for most tourist locations that rely on people driving to them. The lodge I stay at in northern NH has been struggling for 3 years to stay open. Even this year, with near record snow fall amounts, the number of guest-nights was way off due to the price of gas and the fact that the entire state or NH had good to excellent snow so many people did not have to travel to ride. Many small tourist locations are going to have it difficult. I plan on taking a few multiple day trips through the northeast on my motorcycle this summer, just need to plan around the weather. I talked to a freid of mine who has family in Austria, the gas prices there are also going up as fast as ours except there the price is $8.50 a gallon.
 
North bound traffic on I-75 seamed pretty light at 7 pm here in Gaylord. Usually were I work it gets pretty crazy about 5:00 when the downstaters start showing up....not today.....you could have set up bowling pins in the main aisles.

We are going shooting, snowboarding and i might get the sled out one last time this weekend. Will have to ride above 10,000 feet to go riding. :whine:

Staying home breaking the quads out and bonfires at night. ;)!, gas is $4.19 here, one gas station went out of business this weekend,,sad i tell ya..
 
I spent this past weekend in St Germain, WI. I went up there to visit my parents and while I was up there and cut and split a truckload of firewood and brought it back with me. I also went to the classic snowmobile roundup that they had in St Germain. I saw quite a few really nice late '70s SRXs and they also had Tim Bender's Vmax-4 there. It made me kinda think that Id like to find me an old Yamaha to tinker with.
Anyways, they said on the news up there that travel was only down about 2%. They said that due to the high gas prices, people are just spending less on going out to eat and souvniers and whatnot. I believe it, because the interstate was just as crowded as it has been any other year.
I'll tell you one thing, I dont care if gas is $10 a gallon, Im still going up north. I need to get away from the traffic, noise and stress that I deal with every day living in southern Wisconsin, so for me not going up north on a holiday weekend just isnt an option.

We camp right off of I80,probablly the busiest interstate in the US. Trafic was about 20% of what it ussually was. Maxdlx
