I was there on Sunday, it was pretty cool. My father and I went there. He was drooling over the Polaris', I was drooling over the Yammies. Its got me inspired to find me an old Yamaha to tinker with.
Under the pavilion they had these 4 '70s SRXs that looked to be in near showroom condtion. Id like to find me an SRX like that someday...

i dont now how wayne trapp is, can someone tell me, is he a legend? I think about oval race or something like that.
To explain: im from norway, and many of those machines is never released her in this country, and therefore nearly no one now anything about those here.
Im very courious about history around srx and gpx in the states, and else worldwide.

Heres the story to the best of my knowledge. Yamaha raced the SRX in the '70s on ice ovals and they pretty much dominated racing at that time. At one point in time the SRXs were pretty much outlawed because they were seen as being too fast and too dangerous. A few people got killed while racing their SRXs and at the point the governing body stepped in.
I dont know who Wayne Trapp is either, so Im at a loss on that one.
 
Wayne and Lynn are Brothers and Mike is their cousin. They raced for Yamaha starting in 1970, Mike raced Yamaha's thru 72 then went to Ski Doo. Wayne and Lynn raced with Yamaha thru the 75 season. Mike won World Championships in 71 and 72 Wayne finished 2nd to Mike in 71. Lynn was one of the sno pro drivers for Yamaha in 74

Indeed it was. Im only 28 years old, so that was a bit before my time, but from everything Ive read about and have been told about the '70s, it was the golden age of snowmobiling.
The winters were so snowy and the industry was in such a boom that almost everyone was making a snowmobiling. You literally had hundreds of snowmobile manufacturers and then the combination of the gas crunch, a slow economy and a few bad winters hit and almost all of those companies got out of making sleds.
Ive always had an interest in vintage snowmobiles, so I try to go to classic sled shows when I can (I go to the one in St Germain every year) and youd be amazed at some of the companies that made sleds.
Ive owned a couple vintage sleds. I had a '78 Polaris TX 340 and a '78 Ski-Doo RV 340 and they were fun. Id like to find me an old Yamaha of that same era, but thus far I havent found anything that was worth restoring.
