hey

my 04 viper mtn this winter seemed liek she wasnt gettin much oil because after a tank i used to fill the oil injection up with 500 ml! so i started to mix my gas in the tank too. i want to adjust my oil pump cable so i can get more oil going to my motor. i was looking at where the cable goes on the oil pump but its just a bolt and a nut to keet it on. anyone know how to adjust the oil cable? let me know

thanks

Do these checks in this order;

1st- set idle to 16- 1,650 rpm's(@ operating temp)

2nd- set throttle end play to 2mm(adjustment for that is down at the carb rack)

3rd- set oil pump cable free play here and here to 19.5(richer)to 21.5(leaner)mm

i would try 21 ro 22 to start with..

There's this too, little bit of info if your interested...

this is for a 12 gal tank

1 gal = 128 oz. 1 qt = 32 oz.
12 gal = 1536 oz

If you want 50:1, then 1536/50 = 31. You should burn 31 oz of oil per 1536 oz (12 gal) of gas.

31/32 = .9 -- 31 oz = 90% of a quart.

If you burn exactly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas, you're running 48:1 fuel ratio. (1536/32 = 48 ) 48:1, almost 50:1, real close.

i wouldn't go any leaner then 50:1

lol i have no idea where to adjust the cable!!! all i see is a bolt through the cable and you put that through the piece on the oil pump and then there is a nut to keep it on. u didnt explain where i need to do these to adjust the cable! this cable is real weird compared to my 2001 phazer oil pump cable! would anyone recomment me to ditch the oil injecton and just mix my gas in the tank? my friend does it in his mountain max after his cable came unhooked at his throttle. he has no problems so i mite do the same!

I did show you, follow the oil cable till you see the bulge in the cable, pull the
two rubber halves apart and you'll see the adjuster, pull apart the adjuster
and measure the gap.

3rd- set oil pump cable free play here and here to 19.5(richer)to 21.5(leaner)mm

and no i do not recommend removing the oil pump, there very reliable and work great, you just need to dial yours in,witch is easy to do..

PM me your email adress and i'll sent ya a sevice manual for a Viper...

alright ill try that! i have on more question for you! i am changin my water pump o ring gasket and i cant get my new one in there because its a little too big. a guy told me that i need to shrink it or something! u have any info on that?

you could try putting it in the freezer,it may shrink it enough if it's just
an O ring..

i would set the oil pump cable free play to .75" (19.05mm) and be done with it. i have mine and my buddies set at this and they never foul a plug. i don't mind giving my piped viper a little extra oil a little sooner.

i forgot to say that the "hump" in the oil pump cable, will be towards the right hand side of airbox. coming from your throttle lever, you will have 2 cables. one going to the carbs and the other going to the oil pump. just trace the cables and you will see the hump in the cable, w/rubber cabs over it, which help stop the adjusting nut/jam nut from coming loose and loosing the adjustment. what you do is pull the rubber caps back, hold onto each half of the cable, and pull like your trying to pull the cable apart. don't have to pull that hard though:) then you measure the distance w/dial caliper, between the cables end on one half of the cable and the end of the adjusting nut. adjust nut until the gap is at .75". don't worry that its a little richer than what yamaha has printed in the service manual.
