suspension upgrade on 01 srx...

I've just been reading over the thread because ive been thinking about trying to figure out how to get a better ride out of my 01 as well. I'm not looking to spend a lot of $ rite now but from what i gather from this viper shocks front and back and getting them revalved for my riding is a relitavly cheap way to get a somewhat better ride without getting a whole other skid? correct me if im wrong but it dosent seem like that much work, just a few minor adaptions. how much would something like that typically run?

from what i know you can revalve your existing srx shocks in the proaction, pioneer perf. does the revalving, they tear the shocks apart and put longer shafts in and (depending on your weight and riding style) put beefier springs on them.

Pioneer is out in new york, i do not know what the turn around time is on that for them since i live way over in wisconsin, so i think i'll wait till next spring/summer to do suspension work, its fine for now.

Well im in south east MI so the turn aroud time would be close to the same for me to i would guess. the reason i am looking into this is because i went out to my garage the other day and saw a puddle of fliud onder one of my front shocks. needless to say i need to get this taken care of before the snow flies. my thoughts are if im gonna fix it theres no sense putting the same thing back in there and if im gonna do one i might as well do them all. any ideas?

i just lomg traveled my 01 last year. if you like the way your sled corners and handles leave it alone.you will loose it if you long travel at least i did. i put brand new viper shocks in the rear direct bolt in. the 01 has the longer limiter straps(though i been told). pioneer performance has spacers to lengthen the transfer rods. (i personally put the viper drop brackets in to raise the rear up when i did this i had to move the transfer rods back to the rear mounting hole. (because was binding) and put thinner bushings on the rods as well.
the sled really soaks up the bumps. the sled transfers alot (i think to much)hard to keep skis down. really havent spent much time trying to tweek in.
I think it is definately an upgrade alot easier on the back.. there is a lot of info on this do some reserch and ask questions..

So in your opinion, would you recomend just doing the rears then? Is that something that is "acceptable" just putting the long travel shocks in the rear? I do mostly MI lower penn trail ridin and i like the way my sled handles, i just want alittle more cushion on the shitty trails.

Kinda off topic, but the guys with M10's I got a question for you. Whats the best way to get it to transfer? I got one in my Polaris mod and would love some more weight transfer.

Anyone with answers on putting viper shocks in just the rear??? :dunno:

Yes, you can just do the rears. The Viper shocks on the front have different style mounts so they won't bolt in anyway. Even if you modify them to make them work, you would then need to widen the front end to compensate.

Many on this board including myself have put just the rear viper shocks on. It's an easy upgrade. I do recomment having them re-valved by pioneer though. I'd also recommend flipping the front stock shock brackets to give you a little more ride hieght to match the rear. It may not corner quite as flat as before, but it is very close and the better ride more than makes up for it. The other guy that complained about the cornering also added drop brackets to raise the rear end higher yet. That is going to have an effect on the sleds ability to corner flat.

Awesome. Thats what I was hopin someone would say.

I guess my next question would be then is it worth it to buy a set of viper rear shocks or could I just have my existing ones long traveled? Is there any difference between doing one or the other? Pros & Cons?
