Srx's Are Nice But To Heavy In My Opinion For All Around Trail Sled I Would Put My Money On A Sx 700 Stock Or Mod It To Me Was One Of The Best Sleds Ive Ever Owned, My Brother Has A Srx 600 Its A Nice Sled But Heavy. I Replaced The Skis On My Sx And I Was Cleaning The Shop Out Today And I Pick Them Up And Didnt Realize How Much Unsprung Weight I Nock Of The Nose Of My Sx With Plastic Skis
I Call My Brothers Srx600 The Baby Blue Elephant, and His Buddy's Srx 700 The Mother :>)

what kind of skis did you end up putting on your sled, the skis I have on my srx 700 are 4 pounds each, I got them from this place called www.cbperformanceparts.com These skis really are about 5 pounds lighter then the stock plastic skis. They are also said to be the lightest skis on the market. They seem to be worth a look, I am glad I did.
Redmater...awesome AV....

ummmm.... you can bigbore the SRX600 to a 780 for the same price as piping an SX700 (or close to the same money anyways)
any debate as to which is faster then?

780? Pipes are cheap - which must mean that this big bore is dirt cheap...

Last I checked at Hauck, the 780 kit was a little over 2 grand. Still not bad cosidering it makes 165-190 hp depending on setup. You would be spending close to 1000 on pipes for the sx by the time you figure clutching and jetting, thats if you bought everything new of coarse. IMO, if you're not gonna mess with the bores, get the 700. I think if you want to build power it is always good to start with the bigger motor. Do some porting, head milling, pipes, and hell, why not a boondockers nitrous kit?? Just remember, after all those mods on either sled you'll have way more money stuck into it than a good used SRX 700. Just my two cents, I'm pry crazy though, all my sleds have way more money in them than what they're worth.

ya you're looking at about 2 grand for a bigbore, but a good set of new pipes with jetting and clutching to match, not a whole lot different, and I'm piped SX's are fast and all, but it's gotta be a pretty radically ported SX700 with some very nice pipes spinning an awfully high rpm in order to keep up with a 780 or 835 SRX. and that same porting can be done to the SRX motor.
not to mention powervalves are nice. if you're really honestly flogging it all day long then it's true they are open all the time anyways and don't matter. but if you're the type of guy that is honestly flogging it all day long then you'll already have picked the SRX as the starting point for the reasons we've been over.
I'm not saying that the SX700 is a bad motor, I've ridden regularly several of them, infact I probably have more seat time in on the SX700 motor than I do on the SRX.
but when I started to build my current trailsled... I started with the SRX and I haven't looked back.

Ok, so trail sled then SRX.. But I'm kinda looking to build some what of a Renegade only built from a Yammie. Well, Renegade with big engine. I got this deal on a 99 SRX with Ohlins 46PRC longtravel shocks...Kiler price. Sure, it looks like crap but I don't care.

Are you saying renegade as in ski doo renegade? With a slightly longer track?
I would say building a Yamaha to be a renegade....is that it??

Yeah, I was kinda trying to give you the feeling of it all, kinda like a killer Renegade... Or SKS if you prefer Pol over Doo. Not extrem hill climber but it shouldn't sink like a stone off the trail either... But yes, I was referring to Doo MXZ Renegade.
