My SRX and Studding Track

First of all mod.I mean't... you don't run studs..eh and most probably only black on the viper pans. You can paint them blue with Krylon Paint for plastic.
:dunno:  :dunno: :o| You always ask me the hard questions...

yep still got no studd on my sled cause i don;t have any protector under there on those 98 .. i know it could be a good idea to install some and put studd but still need to give chance to my friend lollllllll

I had a few scratch marks on my front heat exchanger when I bought my sled with the stock track and studs. Nothing deep or major. I've been using 144 Woody's 1.075" gold diggers up the centre since last winter and so far not a single problem, and i've ran the track with about an inch of sag without any pull.

I dont know of anybody that rides a srx without studs!Even my wife would not go without them. But the hills and trails get icy around here with the amount of meltdowns and traffic.Unlike farther north were they have a 2 foot base most of the time and highway trails.

mr changeup..thanks for your take on it.bluewho,my SRX had studs originally and it helped alot.Just noticing the damage the studs were doing scared me off I guess.I would love to stud again, but want to do it proper and get all ther info first anout stud lengths and track tensions.
It is really hard to imagine how the studs would even touch the exchanger while the guards are in place. If you rotated the track and saw where them studs are, there was no way they could even reach the exchanger. That is what confuse's meabout it.

I have had the same experience with studs.... I have about 5 places that they touched the exchangers.....Scared me away:) Well that I and I had the track come off doing about 80 on a lake......I was lucky it didn't do any damage and I had a long way before shore!!!!! I sure had some good grip before she blew;)! Good luck monster!!!!!

my friend did the same thing lollll ...it was funny to see the rear skid raise in the air and the track fly away.. well it was funny but he doesnt hurt himself ... he think the track blow off because of studd on the side of the track and not only in middle

There is probably tons of sleds with pick marks from the old .750 .850 and some 1 inch tracks from running with 1 or 1.075 picks. There was lots of traction but the hieghth of rubber above the track clips was only about a 1/2 inch high so when pressed against a protector they would rub or scratch the bottom of the tunnel first then the front cooler.Studding on the outside rows gives more traction because they sit closer to the rails were there is more wieght but will pull or rip out first and will hit the cooler if your track comes loose before the middle ones do.Studding a 1 inch preditor with 1.075 on the outside rows is worthless imo because the paddles will hold the track up not letting the stud penetrate the ice.But if you look at the centre section there is open areas that work well with double backers side by side in 2 rows than a single ether side of the paddle that is in the middle the next row.You wont win all the races on ice with this but you will be competative and not have to wory about picks pulling or rubbing if your track comes loose if you trail ride with your sled.

im running a 1" hacksaw with 192 1.175" studs and tall nuts hooks up alright, awesome in hard and ice but anything loose it still spins, a few nicks but no real issues with clearance at all, i also and running a edge rear skid though
