i am looking at getting a srx...not too sure what year to get? any adivice and technical facts will help out...thanks!!!!
01-02 were the best years.
2001 were probably the fastest built but the 2002 is a more user friendly sled for it has DCS protection. Ethier sled will be a great investment. 00 or newer..
00-02 were the fastest.. I would jet to 01 specs for a stock sled though. 02 can be as good as the others if you cure DCS issues and run some good gas.
01-02 just`had dual hand and thumb warmer upgrades

May sound dumb to some but I'd look for an '01-'02 mainly because of the separate warmer switches, I hated the single switch on my '98. My thumb was smoking hot when my pinky was just right and when my thumb was just right my pinky was frozen.

I felt the same, but split the circuit into 2 circuits, using another yammy reostat. Works sweet.
Also main reason for hot thumb, cold hands is the hand warmers...Mine was like that too, replaced the hand warmers (that were bent over the bar end a bit) and they were hot as hell again
I agree that 2001+ are great, but my basis for that is the DUAL BULB, not dual hand/thumb
Why is everyone against my '99

Nicest decals of any years IMO

It's not that the '98-'99 isn't a good sled, but the '01 is regarded by most as nicer all around.
that is if you own a 01. owners of the 02 say the same thing!(that theirs is the best year) hmmmmm..

GUYS WANT YA TO BUY THE 01 BECAUSE SUPPOSELY ITS THE FASTEST OF ALL THE SRX,s. I HAVE BEAT MANY WITH MY 2000 AND MY 2002. I EVEN REMEMBER BEATING ONE WITH MY 99. ALL THE SRX,s 98-02 WERE GREAT SLEDS. 98 HAD CRANK UPDATE. NOTHING WRONG WITH A NICE 99. 3:16 (yammie tony)
The lack of 5 HP on the 98-99 models can easily be made up with a good clutch kit. The same one I run in my SRX with all Yamaha parts.
If you are worried about it that much, add a base gasket and cut the heads .030 on the 98-99. Jet the sled to 01 specs.. Its good for 6 to 8 HP all around.
They just dont have the luxuries of the 01-02 sleds with the big ones being the dual headlight dual warmers. 00 had the dual headlight..
Like Tony said.. nothing wrong with a good clean 99. They pretty much had all the crank issues solved and relocated the power valve servo motor for reliability and easier to work on that year.
Did all the years have heated carbs? When did they put the TPS on them?

All SRX's have heated carbs, pretty sure they all had TPS too.

all srx's had the heated carbs, but '00 and newer had the tps.
can the detonation control be disconected on the 02's?
