that I ordered when I bought some new parts for my front end don't fit the spindles.
I was missing one so I bought a pair, they are too big for the hole in the top of the spindle. I've got a 98 Vmax 700sx, that I bought last year, it has plastic yammy skis, so I know they came off a newer sled. I've looked though a few parts diagrams, but haven't found a different part number yet. Does anybody know where I should look?
I know I could run without them, but it doesn't look as finished...

What letter is stamped on your trailing arms?

OK. I'm back... These are cheap replacement arms. One, I put on last year. There wasn't anything stamped on them. But I can tell you that I bought it online and it was listed for this sled, and bolted right on. It looked exactly like the one I took off, except for the color.
arm dont matter, the spindle caps friction fit in the spindles, unless you have aftermarket lightweight spindles. in that case, wrap some electrical tape around the plug and drive it in with a soft faced mallet. or glue it in with some silicone.

Actually, I believe Ding was eluding to the fact that the sled could have the longer spindles on it if the skis are different(because you lose 1.5" of ride height going to the plastic from steel). In order to put the longer spindles in it, you have to change the trailing arms as well. I would assume since he asked, that the long spindle and short spindle have different sized cap holes. Could be wrong but thats probably why he asked.

My spindle holes are smaller than the friction fit on the new caps. I do have the old trailing arms up at my mom & dads place where I normally keep the sled. I just have it down here to ready it winter.
are you refering to the stock, black plastic caps that plug the spindle top just above the steering arms, or the aftermarket caps to cover the trailing arm bolt to the tunnel? unless i am incorrect, stock proaction spindles are the same, except viper, being longer. which, as crew stated above, would require different arms, which should not affect the spindle cap, as my viper ones interchange with my other, shorter spindles and vice versa. no debate intended, was just offering a solution.
I was just trying to figure out what ding was elluding to, he's pretty sharp when it comes to this chassis.
At this point all I can suggest is a bigger hammer.
A picture of the spindle may shed some light but I'm guessing it won't.

Wasnt there an update on the spindles back then making them thicker walled for better welds? That would result in a smaller hole. It would be strange that the caps would be for the old style that was discontinued way back then.
my 98 srx had a recall for this, but the original plugs are still in her. ding, what were you refering to? the suspense is killing us!

I'm thinking, I'll try heating these new plugs up and forcing them in. I can take a picture when I get home and post it tonight (I'm at work right now). The hole in the top of the spindle is definitely smaller than the friction fit plug.

One more thing... where is the 1.5" lost? (saddle, ski, etc.?)

Buy the caps for a 98 SRX and you will be fine. If you can't get them send me a P.M.

The 1.5"(approx) is lost in the ski saddle. The all steel skis where 1-1.5" taller to the mounting hole than the aluminum saddle and all plastic ski. They made the spindle longer(and the trailing arm housing) to compensate when the aluminum saddle ski came out.

By dropping 1.5" in the front how is the ride effected?
I didn't really notice a difference on the Venture/Vmax Rage. Biggest thing was that the control arms are now 1.5" closer to the ground and I found that alot more snow came over the front end while boon docking.

So I guess there could also be more contacts with ground objects (rocks, stumps, and ice chunks). I just bought all new control rods because the old ones were all bent up, especially the two bottom ones.
I'll see if the local dealer has srx caps...
