Rusty Stator????SXR700

Took the Hauck pipes off my g/f's SXR to clean them up and repaint them and noticed that the stator is kinda of open to the elements. Which caused it to rust pretty bad, anyone expriecene this problem? Can it be removed with the engine still in the chassis? Any help or suggestions are appreicated.
 
Thats actually common even on srx/viper as well, they will rust if condensation builds on them from being stored without enough ventilation(like enclosed trailers). Yes, you can fix it with engine in sled. Most of the time youll only need to remove the muffler and the recoil, then you can get at the flywheel, use a wet/dry paper to sand the magnets, wipe clean with acetone or brake clean. Be sure to blow out the housing and all with compressed air to clean out the rust dust afterwards.

;)! ;)! ;)! ;)! Thanks.......Ive noticed it on both my Viper and SRX but niether were as bad as the SXR. Im still suprised that theres no sort of cover for the stator on the redhead, Viper/SRX recoils seem to have much better coverage over the stator than the redhead engines do.
 
You guys call the SXR 700 engine a redhead. Is it because on the outside of the engine the head cover are red compared to blue on the 700 SRX? What color are the 600 SXR ?
 
My 01 had this same issue a couple years ago and it had a direct effect on spark. I was fouling out plugs pretty regularly and the spark was not that great. Some sanding did the trick and I haven't had any issues in two years.
