I have an 01 SRX that is mostly stock. I've been thinking of putting an aftermarket can on for alittle better sound and maybe some additional performance. I want it to sound nice but not be obnocious since I do a fair amount of LP trail riding. Any sugestions as to what I should look into? What kind of performance increases will I get? Thanks guys

srx + can = loss of performance. The only can that is thought to be close to the stocker power wise is the Power INC. Everything else the general consenus is that you loose power and gain volume. The aftermarket cans are lighter than the suitcase that is the stock can. So if the weight loss is more important than the power loss....

Do a search on this one. It has been discussed a lot, but the post above is an accurate summary.

will i loose power tho? Im not gonna bother with this if is gonna make my sled slower. weight is not an issue, its a stock sled. the only people i race seriously is if one of my buddies bets me he can bet me. (most of them already cant - they ride ski-poo)

I am having a heck of a time finding a good post for you on this topic. It seems that more and more of the old stuff isn't available anymore. Anyway... Most will say that all cans outside of the Power Inc one will lose you a HP or two. Some of the engine builders on here have dyno'd them in the past to verify that claim. You can also run into issues with the DNR depending on where you ride. I'd put that same money into clutching if it were me.

i heard there was no lose with the hauck stingers.when i had 2 srx's. 1 had the bender can which was a nice sound.the other had hauck stingers & that sounded awesome.i would go with the stingers if i got another 1.

Just curious. Will the 1 or 2 hp loss really be that noticable? Im thinkin about traidin a set of stock skis + alittle cash for a bender can and was wonderin if it was worth it or if i shoud just take the cash for the skis and forget the can.

As stated above, the weight loss is the real gain here.
The way you figure your actual gain is to look at your power to weight ratio.
(divide your weight by your power) and you will have a number somewhere in the 3 range (+ or -).
That is going to equal out to 3 (+ or -) pounds for each HP.
Now look at the actual weight you will save with the can.
Of course models vary, but normally a can will save some where around 12 pounds.
So at 3 pounds per HP, you will remain with the same actual performance by losing both 12 pounds AND 4 HP.
So in saving 12 pounds, and only losing 2 HP, you are gaining the effect of 2 HP.
Now the qualifyer for all of this.
This is how the theory works, but it will vary in where in the RPM range the performance is gained and lossed etc.
You will not feel a 2 or 3 horse difference.
You will more than likely feel a 10 or 12 pound difference.

There's nothing like the sound! My buddy had the Bender can on his SRX, it was awesome. I loved it. When I got my sled I bought an SLP can not as loud, but it wasn't like riding a sewing machine. 15 minutes after getting my new sled home from the dealer it was on! Rode it that way for awhile. Then I got home from a ride and removed it ground the mesh off the exit, pulled out the packing, and rewelded it together. End result : it wasn't as good as the Bender, but sounded better than when I got it.+
Loss of hp, maybe, but the sound just drives me. I love to hear the wail of a 2 stroke!!! All my past sleds have been piped, so noise is in. My neighbors at the lake don't care as I resect them coming in at 3AM. The only one they didn't like was the buddie's sled w/PSI mod blasters (lake racer pipes).
When you get older your back will appreciate the lighter weight too. How often are you going to be wide open? I only run the lake to my buddies place and back at 90~100.

I have the stock can, Power Inc. case style, and Hauck Growler (first gen). They all pull the exact same clutching, back to back to back, long pull or short pull. Depends on what I want to hear on a particular day. Power Inc. is nice and mellow, Growlers are loud.
It's ok to get beat now and then, I ride with a bunch of 30 somethings who all have newer sleds. It's fun to punish them on the trail! It kills my back, but I'd never tell them that. With the HC, rolller cluchting setup my sled rocks out of the corners. They love the sound it makes + the smell of the Klotz.
If someone beats me on the lake I just say I'm old and fat, if you can't beat me you should be ashamed. But I don't ride the lake as much anymore. I'd rather go somewhere on a day trip than hang at the strip. I gew up at Detroit Dragway and had plenty of straight lining. Now it's better to travel around, and a set up SRX still corners w/the best.

did some comparison dyno testing on cans quite a few years back. benders can actually made more h.p. mid range & top than stock. will be doing some pipe testing @ dynotech this season on a srx. will take some different cans & post results.

That will be good. Some good numbers instead of hearsay.
