Does anybody know the difference in crankcases for all the redhead sleds? There seem to be three or four different part numbers from 1998-2001. Will an 01 600 bottom end take the top end parts to make a 700? Thanks!
should work fine, as i have 01 600 top end on a 00 700 bottom end. you do need to swap out the cdi box as they are different.
Glad I asked. Thanks. I might have forgotten about the cdi.

The CDI goes with the cases? you lost me there ....
LOL, I'm so confused, but somehow I'll figure it all out!
xsivhp, no, the cdi doesnt go with the cases. obviously there is a cdi difference between 600 and 700(timing curves) so, if you make a 6 a 7, or as stated above, a 7 a 6, you will have to switch electronics. hope that clears it up.

keep the cdi with the crank then, right? so the cases do not matter between a 600 and 700? if you have a 600 and need cases the 700 cases will work, and vice versa, is that correct?
thats the way i see it, crank should be the same. difference in bore, same stroke. different jetting and clutching, maybe oil pumps. 700 pumps more oil? i believe there were some crank or case issues on the early build 700's. so yamaha made some changes to the cranks. although i believe they are still interchangable, you may want to stay away from 97-98 bottom ends.
