I was at my dealership the other day and they have a yamaha catelog, and in there i saw billet aluminum gas caps, they are 40 bucks, and i was curious if any one has any experience with these caps, do they seal and vent like they are supposed to? I don't wanna end up buying something and end up leaking gas everywhere, i suppose if it has a gasket it should seal? They look pretty bad@$$.

yep, they work like advertised... but they are very prone to theft. a lot of people are idiots and see shiny things and decide to take them. so if you do get it, keep your stock plastic one in seat trunk just in case.

They work fine.* I have a blue one on my SRX and the silver one on my Attak.* never had any problems.* They have a rubber gasket inside the cap to help it seal tightly.
And I concur...they look bad*ss!
Do like the other guy says though and carry your original plastic one as a spare in case yours up and disappears because some greedy lowlife decided to swipe it.* I have not had this happen myself yet but I do carry a spare just in case.

I just put the new one on my srx.... it has holes all the way around. I plan on putting a safty cable through, and securing. yamahasportsplaza.com has them, best price i have found. The new ones are 45 and the old ones are 30.

they do like to condense a little, especially in an enclosed trailer. just watch for water in the fuel or prepare for it. they look really good if you pair them up with a billet pull rope handle.

Been putting it off but maybe this year ill pick one up. Was told by a yammy dealer not to buy it due to it being prone to have fuel filler breakages. He said if it is tightened a little too much then after being run it can be a bitch to get off and he had replaced a couple tanks because of it. Dont know if i believe him but dont know why he would discourage me from spending money at his shop, so verdict is still out. Makes sense with different heat capacities of the aluminum vs. abs that they will expand and contract differently.

I can vouch for that ^^^LOLExpertXViper said:I have more issues getting my stock plastics ones off at times then I do my Billet Yami g-caps.
Never had any problems with our billet caps.
A year or so ago I had a bunch of them for sale I think they were 37.00 plus shipping and they sold like hotcakes!!! Yamaha DISCONTINUED them for a while,,but found another vendor to supply them (yamaha doesnt make fuel caps for a living).. Now they are available again.. As far as not being able to get them off,,,, LAY OFF THE BEERS and maybe you'd be able to unscrew them!!! (no issues)
Will they fit the older late-80's early 90's sleds too?

I have a Yamaha billet gas cap on my 2000 SRX and my 2003 RX-1. Absolutely NO problems of any kind. The only thing I worry about is a low life son of a bitch stealing it while I am in a restaurant or over-night at a hotel. I carry the stock plastic ne in my tank bag and swap it if I am going to be away from the sled for awhile. Too bad the low life make me do this, wish they would all drop dead.
I've got them on both my SX's as well as my SRX, no problems with them...I had'nt thought about anyone stealing them! I guess I better start carrying the old plastic ones in the seat back!

Can you still get the billet pull start handles?

Yes, there are lot of choices for recoil handles. Hope nobody decides to steal that. I have both on my srx, never any problems with either. Just don't let the recoil handle snap back on it's own, they are little heavier & could possibly break the plastic surround or something.
