Just got a 2001 SRX and wanting to know if the power valves are self-cleaning or is it a good idea to have them cleaned. Has just under 2000 miles. Also, anything else I should do at this mileage?

What Ryan said..give them a cleaning and do so every 800 miles or so (in my experience). When they gum up and get stuck, they SEVERELY affect performance...and if you let them go too long and they are stuck, it will result in a pull-through on the valve or broken cable. Once you have done it a few times..it is about an hour job to remove them, clean them, and reassemble.

YAMAHA DID CALL THEM SELF CLEANING. ACTUALLY THEY ARE. SERVO MOTOR DOSE SPIN THEM IN AND OUT OF BLOCK TO HELP PREVENT STICKING. THATS HARDLY CLEANING THOUGH AND THEY MUST BE DONE. RUN AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR OIL IN THIS SLED AND YOU WILL HAVE CLEAN POWERVALVES. 3:16 (yammie tony)

mine only has less then 700 miles on it but the valves were still dirty. fairly easy to clean them for sure.

I just cleaned mine and i owned the sled for a year in they were pretty bad. How do u adjust them or know if they are adjusted right?

If you pull the valves to clean them do they have to be readjusted or do they go back to where they were originally. Still scared to try this myself!

YOU GUYS THE OIL YOUR USEING IS THE PROBLEM. RUN AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR AND THEY WILL STAY CLEAN. 3:16 (yammie '' big '' tony)
I run the yama lube 2s i hard that was good for power valve motors too

I found the Yamaha 2S still gummed them up pretty good....I switched to Spectro Syn-Snow (full synthetic) but I am still not happy and may give the Amsoil Interceptor call like yammiegod says. the again, it is only for my back up/guest sled and it doesnt get used that much.

HOw about Amsoil Dominator?

Zack

Nope, use only amsoil interceptor, it says right on the jug, "excellent power valve performance" i mean if you don't want good performance go buy the other crap.

You pay a premium price for the interceptor but its premium oil.
