seemed like clutches not shifting out 97 sx 700 power inc pipes geared down 1 tooth on upper gear pioneer yellow spring engages around 5200 89-L WEIGHTS 4.5 rivet coult only get 67 mph out of her but i do weigh 280 lbs i also made a mark w a sharpie pen on the top of my primary clutch and it is still there . add more weight to the 89-L OR put my fat a$$ on a diet must say the holeshot was great , BIG WHEELIE first run 7.80 at 67.28 mph .839 r/t second run it slowed at 3/4 track and got beat right at the finish line by a 2000 srx second run was 7.66 @64 .73 mph .543 r/t any suggestions would be cool or is that the best that sled will run w/a 280 pounder

It should do more then 65 mph i can tell ya that much!! 280 lbs aint $hit, i seen bigger guys on a sx that do 80 somethin, but they were stock, Clutching is overrated imo. They are set up good from the factory, i came to the conclusion.... why upgrade something that already does the job?

You obviously lost top end putting a clutch kit in it. and gearing it.

yea i may go back to stock clutching and start from there i forgot to mention it has the stock helix in it however the buttons look very worn i am wonderin how to get the belt to ride to the top of the primary

Gear down 1 more tooth
What are your rpm,s from start to finish & are pipes end dumps or centre dumps?

end dumps. as for the rpm i really was not looking at the tach as i should have been too busy enjoying the holeshot i layed on the competition i guess. i will try to test once again out in my yard . gear down even more - okay if that what you think ill give it a try ill get back to ya on the rpm thanks turk

With end dumps you wanna be 8100 rpm at start & about 8300 rpm at the finish line....very important!!!!

i seem to remember during testing last winter on snow the rpm`s being higher than the 8500 i need to clutch for. if i gear down 1 tooth that should bring it to 20/40 gearing can i use the stock chain for that combo ?

8100 start 8300 finnish got it i think that i am way off to high rpm so am i correct to assume put more weight in it to bring it down to that

chain won,t work
u need more primary weight to get rpm,s down
run em low in 500' on grass

POPS I HAVE DONE SOME WORK ON THE 99 700 SX THAT WAS THERE YESTURDAY. SLED HAS BENDER TRIPLES ON IT. WE STILL TRYING TO WORK OUT LAG OUT OF THE HOLE BUT SLED RAN A 6.1 AT 83 MPH. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tony
I ran 4 bender piped trips for 6 years
Nasty lag that is hard to get rid of when clutched aggressively; especially with heelclicker weights
Try some 89l.s
2.4 gram rivet
52/44 helix
green at 80 wrap

MIKE THIS SLED RUNS STRONG, BUT ITS A TUFF NUT TO CRACK. GUY THAT OWNS IT IS MY NEIGHBOR, PRETTY YOUNG GUY WHO WANTS TO RACE FIRST AND DO VERY LITTLE UPKEEP SECOND WITH A VERY LOW BUDJET. I TRYED TO THROW A PACKAGE TOGETHER WITH WHAT WAS IN IT ALREADY AND STUFF I HAVE. HERE WHERE WERE AT.
I CLUTCHED IT FOR 9000
8DN-20 WEIGHTS 4.5 BOTH HOLES.
MAXXIMIN BLACK PRIMARY SPRING. 5000 ENGAGEMENT.
52-42 CAM AT 80 WRAP. / GREEN SPRING.
152 MAINS, 55 PILOTS.
I ALSO HELPED HIM TAR RACE THIS SLED, BEST 1/4 WAS 11.05 @ 114.
GUY HE BOUGHT THIS SLED FROM TOLD HIM THERE NO HELP FOR THAT BOG. I AM GONNA STEP PILETS UP TO 60,s . 3:16 (yammie tony)
i also should add this sled is not trail rode

yg316:

the bender trples for the sx make peak power @ 8800 rpm ( hot pipes ). @ 9000 your giving away h.p..
put in a bender red/yellow or white/blue secondary spring @ 30* or 40*( this will get rid of the bog ). you will then need to add around 3 grams to the front clutch. in 500' i would run them around 8600 unless you get a bunch of heat in them @ the line.

bob

thanks turk good useful info again! yg 316 do you know what class youre neighbor ran in ? i do seem to remember that sled but i dont think he was in my class wich was trail mod 700 i was put in that class because of pipes beleive me i did not want to be in that class

I see some probs with your buds set up
mains are way too fat...run 145,s for grass
pilots should be fatter
raise needles 1/2
You want 8200 rpm on launch & climb to 8500 at the finish line.,
5 years of testing triplle bender pipes on yammie 700 motors & for racing thats where u want to be.
8dn-20,s good trail weight but 89l,s;8ca,s or 8ab,s are way better.
I really like the 89L,s. & will work with that helix.
Get rpm,s down to those levels & you won,t believe how much faster in 500' you will be

been der dun dat & tested the crap out of em!!!

BOB, SOME SAY THIS SX WAS BUILT RIGHT AT BENDERS BY ONE OF THE GUYS THERE, ITS A 99 (blue ) and dose run strong. BUT I THINK WHEN SOLD TO MY NEIGHBOR, IT WAS REALLY DETUNED. PRIMARY CLUTCH SET-UP WAS OFF BY A MILE. IT DOSE SEEM TO BE BETTER WITH HEAT IN MOTOR. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT RPM THESE PIPES RAN AT SO I PULLED OUT MY BENDER CATALOGS . YOUR CORRECT 8600 TO 9000 SEEMED TO BE SWEET SPOT. AGAIN THIS IS NOT MY SLED. ITS LIKE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER A PUZZLE WITH THE WRONG PIECES. ANOTHER WORDS HERE '' TRY THIS ''.
POPS, I BELIEVE HE RAN ISR 700 INPROVED BECAUSE HE HAS SPEED TRACK AND CHISELS. 6.1 @ 83 WITH ABOUT A 10 FOOT LAG. SLED RUNS STRONG THOUGH. !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

turk i will be adding more weight to my 89L and dropping 1 tooth i think i may pull all 3 weights put em on my scale and add 2grams to each and test

Tony
benders make peak torque at 8200 rpm
peak hp at 8700 rpm
clutch em to the low end for grass dragging...even on a ported motor.
I even have my original set up & installation pages from Bender which states this.
if your in doubt call dynoport cus he made these pipes for bender.
these were also the aftermarket yamaha GYT pipes for 1 year in 1998.

MIKE I DON,T DOUBT ANYTHING YOU GUYS SUGEST HERE. LIKE I SAID, I WENT TO THE CATALOGS FOR INFO. POWERBAND SHOWED ON DYNO IN BOOK WAS 8600 TO 9000. I PLAIN ON UPING PILOT JETS AND TRYING 8CA,s. 3:16

Using 8ca,s with that helix go hevier in the tip & ad inner if you initially overrev.
