Wondering if this has been done with good results?
Since the reverse is non electric, Id assume this could be done fairly easily, but swapping out the chaincase houseing and gears from any trailing arm sled that HAD reverse?
Am I correct? Is it that easy?
Wouldn't mind reverse some days, loading and unloading from the pickup truck....

hey chili yes reverse is easy to add ..but the linkage is a little harder ....i have reverse on my srx ..but no linkage ...operated by cable and hooked to e brake ...so i didnt have to move collant bottle or anything ...well worth the effort to add reverse

I'm kinda curious about this as well... reverse would be a definate plus some days especially on the tight trails. What parts do you need to complete the swap? How dose it work with the ebrake cable flip the lever and your in reverse, just sacrifice the ebrake?
Chili - I might as well just follow you around this site. You seem to bring up some pretty good questions, alot of stuff that relates to me & my sled. Keep up the good work.

so by theory, you ditch the ebrake, use that stock lever to operate the reverse lever?
Sounds slick, and I like it!!

forgot to as, ho does that or for disengaging?? is the spring load in the ebrake used?
wouldn't mind knowing a little more
Also, which sleds are compatible? AKA which models can I salvage the gears/chaincase from? Could I technically use my stock case, or does it have to be changed?

Also what would be involved with making the ebrake cable operable as the "reverse cable" as far as making the connection/fabricating a linkage to the chain case? What kind of alterations would be needed to make this work?
hey guys all you need is the case cover and guts from a reverse chain case ..and a longer brake cable from a 4stroke sled ..the reverse gear yes is spring loaded ..witch disenguages the reverse ...yes you have to ditch the e brake ...but nothing a rubber band on the brake lever wont fix...i bought this kit already made from scott..he does awsome work ...the best part is it installs in about 20 minuites ..and works on a stock srx ....i can get you some pictures so you can see how it works ...a small bracket has to be made and a bolt needs the head ground down just a bit to clear the linkage...

please send what you have...and this scott, is that a member (may be stupid question) or an actual manufacturer?
This sounds like its the way to go, and yes I never use the ebrake anyways, and if I ever NEEDED to, elastic, rope, twist tie etc.
Sorry to keep beationg a dead horse, but the reverse guts, any trailing arm Yammy with reverse? Just need to know so I can begin the hunt. We have a recycler here and he has TONS of stuff so, should be easy enough once I know which models apply

Yes, I would like to see the pics too! If its as easy as you say I just might have reverse before this season!
yes scott is a member he is betheviper ...yes any trailing arm yamaha with reverse...viper is the most common to use but vmax and others will work also the olny difference is the chain size but as long as you get the gears and chain it will work ...i have the chain case apart rite now but i will get you some pictures in a hour or two ..once you see them you will understand exactly how it works ....

sweet
I had the chainase off last year, so I can visualize it pretty well, just the ebrake thing, but again shouldn't be too bad
Now, I am calling the recycler here, and the hunt begins

Chili - If you get to this, let me know how it goes. I'm busy as hell rite now with work but if ths is as easy as it sounds so far, I might be able to set aside a weekend before the snow files to see if I can hook my sled up. I appreciate it

OK, so called the recycler, and his prices have gone up
Ofered a complete chaincase, geras, chain cover for 400 bucks??
Sounds a little steep to me?
Also, he tried to tell me a viper one wouldn't work?
So again, if I keep my original chai case, all I need is the GEARS and CHAIN yes? if I was able to source them?
PS - this one he had was from a 98 xt600

$400 bucks!!! That does sound kinda steep! I honestly wouldnt know what a fair price is really, but damn! Maybe this will be waitin till next summer...lol Let me know what you find, I will do some lookin as well and let you know if I find anything
hey chili 400 is a little much ...i found one a few weeks back for 325...contact biggins on the site he had one might still have ...
viper kit works great and reverse is nice my buddy did it. " motodave289 he's on here "the year of your srx matters because of the different chain from 2000, 2001 and 2002 and the earlier ones but the newer chain is stronger and is the same as the viper. He put on a new viper reverse kit wasn't bad but no instructions he had to figure out everything. everything worked good if I recall he had to move over coolant tank and clearance a few things. I've been watching for one myself and 400.00 isn't bad make sure you get everything. Park brake works fine I don't recall any problems with it. I haven't seen bethvipers kit but his stuff always looks good. The only problem with his reverse is him waiting for me when we turned around man is the snow deep over by big bay

I didn't move my coolant tank or use a cable. I did move the shift lever a little and modified some brackets. Too bad I sold it or I could have sent you guys pictures. Took about 3 hours total and was priceless to have!!!
here are some pictures they show the modifications that will need to be done ,,,,the one peice is actually cut from the e brake lever on the chain case ....scott could probally tell you a little more about how this was made and what is all needed
