edr454 said:viper kit works great and reverse is nice my buddy did it. " motodave289 he's on here "the year of your srx matters because of the different chain from 2000, 2001 and 2002 and the earlier ones but the newer chain is stronger and is the same as the viper. He put on a new viper reverse kit wasn't bad but no instructions he had to figure out everything. everything worked good if I recall he had to move over coolant tank and clearance a few things. I've been watching for one myself and 400.00 isn't bad make sure you get everything. Park brake works fine I don't recall any problems with it. I haven't seen bethvipers kit but his stuff always looks good. The only problem with his reverse is him waiting for me when we turned around man is the snow deep over by big bay
When you say "make sure you get everything" does that mean this kit comes with the necessary brackets and linkages like what Yamahead had in in his pics or is that still something that will have to be made? I dont mind not haveing instructions, i usually dont pay much attention to them anyway...lol but I guess I'm just curious exactly comes in this 'kit' as far as all the pieces. Thanks
i think by everything he means the linkage and spacers bolts ..the parts in my pictures are custom made

I figured yours were custom but i didnt know if this kit had something to serve the same purpose or not. If I was to get this kit would I still have to make a similar part as you did?
the reverse can be put on your sled but you will have to move the anitfreeze bottle just a bit ...i havent done this ...thats wht i got the kit i did so i wouoldnt have to ......there is a write up in the tech pages on what has to be done

Sounds good I will try to find it. Thanks.
I've done the lever type. Not a big deal really. Works great.
Maybe this link will be helpful.

I have a line on a complete setup from a '97 SX 700 tripple. Based on the Pics, looks great and I think it will work well.
He can include the jack shaft, but I dont think this is required, as this chaincase would work on the same shaft right?
Based on shipping, Id like to avoid the extra weight
Please advise of compatibility of sx700, and possible need fo this jackshaft ASAP
THANKS!!!!

i dont see why you would need the shaft ...if yours is ok .....just extra shipping

yup, kyboshed the shaft, complete setup on its way soon enough
Only thing is, it comes with the lever for the reverse, so Ill decide if I wanna relocate the coolant vs use the ebrake.
I like the sounds of the stealth e-brake way, so may need some help from the peeps that have done this, in respect to bracket mods, etc.
Not the waiting begins..LOL

How goes it, Chilli?
My vote: go with the e-brake lever, I like the way that sounds to. I think it would be pretty sweet when nobody knows you have reverse....then your sled moves backwards with you still on it.....everyones like - wait a minute, what the...!!!
- I'm still curious how this will turn out, If its not too much hastle I'll prolly do mine next summer. Keep me posted

so, I started ripping into the sled last night....amazing how much I forgot from when I took the chaincase off last time when did track change...
That being said, the old chaincase is now off, complete chaincase with reverse has arrived, and I bought 2 new grease seals
I need to know what e brake cable I should be looking to buy? I kow someone said one from a 4-stroke, bnut is there 1 in particular? what length?
There's no way Im adding that HUGE linkage and notching my hood, so ebrake is the only way to go....

Check to see that the lower gears match
One thing to check is the number of teeth on the lower gears. I believe that the SRX and Viper use a different size than other proaction sleds. Everything else is the same.
The Yamaha Parts Fiche should help you out in proper assembly of the gears.

OK, but I got everything from the old sled...case cover, case, gears, chain, so do I even need to worry? I am not using any of the original SRX stuff, except the jack and drive shaft?
My main unknown now is what ebrake cable (from which sled) I should purchase?
Also, since I am not using the linkage, which parts should I remove then? AKA, where/what would this cable attach to?

The new case, gears, etc will work, but you may end up with a different gear ratio that will affect performance.
this cable rite here ..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140216887161&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=

Ok cool, if all goes well, it'll be shipped out in the AM THANKS!
Back to GEARING, the setup is from a '97 SX 700. Is the gearing that much different then an SRX? Also, is it possible to retain my gear while adding all the other reverse parts? I thought no but...

Nothing, nobody has any opinions on gearing between the 2 sleds?

Stock 97 SX 700 came with 23/40 and a 70 link chain. Stock 99 SRX 700 came with 23/37 and a 70 link chain. You would be fine with the chain but the gear ratio is quite lower, SRX has the balls to pull the taller gear. Kit should include gearing, use your original chain.

Ok, thats good to know...
Now, this did not come as any kit, its a takeoff from the sx700, with the chain (i got the entire assembly case, cover gears chain etc).
Understanding this, can I still use my SRX gear? If so, should I eep my srx chain, or use the one from the sx? Is there a difference in chains?
