I´m planning to buy a -95 Vmax4 800 ( longtrack version ).
What should I check for that sled before I go and buy it ? Is there any weak points to it or is it just gas up and go ?
Sled has not been driven for a last three seasons and it only has 1500 km`s on it. And that`s true ! ( I know the owner and the sled ) So it should be in near perfect condition. I know that the price will be quite high.
Hope someone can help !!

I would look over the track....somtimes the track will show if the guy cares about his machine....where and how he rides....just my 2 cents

I bought one new, ported and piped it and rode it for over 4000 miles. Great sled. I had the oil pump changed while under warrenty because the calibration was wrong and it gave me too much oil. Other than that it served me well. Go for it.

I had a 95 v-max 4 .....I love the looks of it...drive train was good, but it rode terrible......My buddy bought mine and I still like the looks of it, but he gets pissed when my srx kicks his butt.

There must be something wrong with your buddys vmax 4 if a srx kicks its butt. I have a good running srx 700 and a 95 vmax 4 800 and there is no comparisson, after riding the vmax 4 and then riding the srx, the srx feels like a 500cc sled.

i used to have a vmax 600 i was wondering what kind of top speeds a stock vmax 4 800 would reach???
Thank you for all the info. It is much needed. Now I only have to decide about buying that thing.
I´m also considering -96 XT 600 or -97 XTC 600. My plan is to replace 121`rear with 136`or longer, if I buy either one of those 600cc sleds.

If you're looking for a good trail sled that is comfortable and reliable, I would go with the xtc hands down. With that said, there is no comparison in power between the 600's and the vmax 4. If power outweighs the ride quality for you, go with the vmax 4.

Not sure about the top speeds (how accurate is the OEM speedo @ 100 plus MPH) but I can tell you that at 120 mph I still have throttle to spare.

I could feel a difference from a vmax800 and a sxr700. The sxr700 seamed faster. 800 ran good tho.
Im with the other guys....check all fluids. Change them all out. Clean the carbs and changed the plugs..cus then you just gave it a major tune-up! Also agrees with track..tells alot about the abuse..or non abuse the sled has been thru.
Look over the tunnel and look for any ripples...show its been jumped and tagged on the tail.....Take a quick look at slides and carbides...excessive wear might have caused damaged to skis or rails.
Just my 2 cents.

You forgot to tell everyone about all the work you had to do on your srx, porting, v-force reeds, cold air kit, exhaust can, the list goes on...
Still wont smoke a vmax 800 with quad pipes 170+HP.
