When you go to replace your reeds, is there anything special you have to do?
Do you need new reed cages or can you just buy the reed pedal squares?
How many do you need to replace all in a 2002 SRX?
What are the necessary steps?

tom, you will need 6 petals totals to do your sled. you won't need new reed blocks, unless the rubber that's used to seal against the reed petals, has been burnt or damaged in some way. steps to change reed petals, take off airbox, carburetors, and rubber intake boots. rubber boots will more than likely be stuck to the reed blocks. take them out and there will be 3 small screws per petal, that hold them to the reed block. take screws out and put new petals on. put a little bit of purple or blue loctite on the screws. i would suggest using carbon tech petals, over the stock petals. you have to replace the parts anyhow, so why not go w/the better aftermarket? you will also have reed stoppers bolted to the reed blocks. the little screws hold the reed stopper and the reed petals to the block. hope this helps. have fun. you have any trouble, you know where to post....lol.

I wont even get to see my sled yet for another 3 months.
I have 7100 miles on my SRX and the reeds are original from the factory. I was having a debate with another member on here if they could be worn, not sealing properly or just need to be changed. It might be a contributing factor to my DCS issue.
Ive also heard Yamaha OEM reeds are pretty top quality???
Here is a set on ebay i have looked at. owners says 2000 miles on them. If I go aftermarket, dont i have to buy the whole kit,, reed blocks and all?

tom...yes, the stock reeds are pretty good, but the carbon techs are a little bit better. you need to replace them anyhow, and the same amount of work is involved, wether you replace the reeds w/OEM parts or the carbon techs. the carbon techs, just bolt up to the stock cages. you don't need entirely new cage assemblies or anything.

Stick with oem. They work better then the carbon fiber on a srx. Unless you go with v-force which is not a big gain on a stocker.

i'm not even going to argue...."oem is better than carbon tech".....whatever. v-forces are junk. petal life is like 1,000 miles and they make no difference in performance. dangerdog, how do you figure....have you tried all of them and compare? did you try a longetivity test?

Tom, Don't buy used reeds. Buy OEM.
thanks guys.
my motor is mr viper ported...
I really really wonder what they look like with 7100 miles on them. hopefully replacing them will make a difference.
Ok what part # do I order and what quantity for all the necessary reeds to be replaceds. I didnt know if they came in sets per cylinder or individual.

You will need six of these: 2KM-13613-00-00 ($6.11 x 6)

My "junk" VF2's have over 5000 miles on them with no issues, and happen to work great on a big bore.

I agree with mopar about the carbon techs though, I had to replace my reed petals just because of the miles that were on them and the carbon techs seemed to crispen up the throttle a bit, but i'm sure there isn't any huge gain, as with any replacement reed system.

well, then i must have bad luck, cause the set of vf3's on my rev, lasted 800 miles, before the tips cracked/frayed. and i have 2 sets of vf2's, that were off of 2 700 srx's and they lasted maybe 1200 miles. i never said they didn't work on a big bore. the problem i have w/the vforces, is the petal life. carbon techs are cheap and work great and last.
the stock reeds in my sled were good except the top reed center petal everyone had a chip or started seperating layers ....but i forgot to loctight them
guess what i am going to be doing ....two steps back ....lol

where and why do you need to lock-tite?

loctite has nothing to do w/the layers of the petals seperating or chipping. the loctite is for the little screws that hold the petals to the reed block. you don't want one to fall out and go down in the engine. that would create havock.
