I have been searching this site for suspension upgrades on my 99 SRX, and have found lots of info on upgrading the stock with long travel shocks, M-10's, and so on, but what i am wondering is what is my best bang for my buck? I could spend $400 buying long travel shocks, but would i be better off looking for a take-off suspension out of another brand, like a polaris? Saw something on this site about putting an edge chassis suspension into SRX's, but not a whole lot of details. Is this a reasonable mod and would it be better than Viper shocks on stock skid? Any feedback or other suggestions would be appreciated....
Thanks guys

I personally put an M-10 in my '01 SRX and would highly reccommend it. but it is definitely a more expensive option. Others have put SkiDoo SC-3 or 4 supensions in and were very happy...some others put Polaris Edge suspensions and been happy.....some put Arctic Cat (unsure of model). Anything is better than the SRX in stock form. Keep an eye on EBay as you can find any of the above mentioned suspsensions for a decent price, including the M-10's....let's not forget about the AD Boivin Expert-X either!

IF you Get the m-10 or any other suspension that rides high, do you need to long travel the front or is it fine to bolt in the m-10 and go as is?

Certainly you're not talking about an equivalant year ski-doo skid, are you? Or are you simply not talking about the 11.5 skid in my SRX? When I bought my 98 Mountain SRX new, I rode a couple of ski-don't's and they were horrible!
The one time, I swapped a guy with an brand new MX-Z and it took me all of about two minutes to want my SRX back! Trouble was, we had a few miles of rough trail ahead and he wasn't about to oblige me because he was immediately aware of the difference as well!
We were going slow because it was ROUGH!!!! Then I remembered all the magazine hype that the Doo skid worked best when pushed hard in the rough, so I thought I'd just catch him and get my sled back. Ha! Not a chance! My SRX was so far superior it wasn't even funny. I could not catch up to him, and he wasn't riding hard! We played with it all day adjusting it and trying it, and there just was not a decent ride IN that skid!
Mind you, I'm talking about the 11.5 skid and not the stock SRX 8" unit. At present, I haven't ridden anything that compares to my Attak, except my buddies new Nytro. G.

There is no adjustment for bad shocks.

No. It is not required to change the front suspension if you did the M-10, or a larger travel rear suspension. Would it be a good thing (improvement) to do the front as well, most definitely, but not required. Keep in mind, it is not as easy as a shock swap up front. Per say if you wanted to put front shocks from a VIper or SX..you would have to sweap out the trailing arms, radius rods, etc....basically the whole front end, due to the shorter travel components up front in the SRX, in stock form. I never did anything to mine except having the front shocks rebuilt and it was fine.

I put an edge suspension in my srx and it was the best thing i ever did! The thing rides awesome compared to what it used to and i didnt have down time fixing the skid all winter. Here is a link to a post i made after doing it.

And BTW...I had long traveled the original skid to 11.5 before i went this route. I was still not happy with the durability or ride of that.

I put the Viper shocks in mine.....still junk. Cat,Doo or Poolaris will perform much better and takeoffs are cheap.

Although it's not the best option out there, I put an X-tra 10 in my SRX with the FOX shock setup and it was a world of difference. Cost me $125 and a few hours of time.
Just a thought.

I put an 05 edge susp. in mine and love it. whole different sled. And it launches hard too! Do a search of my name and sholud get some pics. It was not that hard of a swap. The hardest thing of the swap was popping the rivits.

By Edge, you mean Polaris, correct? Is that the same suspension in the Dragon? I rode one last year and it was not bad, admittedly probably better than my SRX Mountain, but it was still shy of the RA. I showed him a roosters backside with the Attak in the ditches for good measure too, just in case he wasn't sure.
I'm still curious about this plastic EXPERT, the ZX2, anyone? G.

Yes, edge is the polaris suspension
i have a m10 air wave in my venture . shur its great but to get THE FULL USE out of it i got a set of ohlins fully adj. shocks for the front . the works shocks were fine for the stock skid with ohlins in it , i can just push it too hard now . the range of adj . on the ohils is WOW . getting jumpy to use it . so if you put in a good rear sus. its the front that can hold you back

The Edge suspension is different than the Dragon skid. The Dragon skid is more like a Pro-X/IQ racer skid. If you thought the Dragon skid was "probably" better than your SRX Mountain skid I would say you didn't ride it how it's meant to be ridden. Take the Dragon through some 3' moguls and it will leave the SRX way back.
Only bad things I've heard about the ZX2 is that some pins/bolts have loosened or broken. Most guys make it sound like an easy fix though. Small stuff is to be expected for a first year skid I guess.

Whats the difference between a polaris xtra 10 and an xtra 12? I found one of each and was thinking about picking one of them up for a next summer project for my 01 SRX? I know they will ride better than whats in there now but other than that I dont know much about them. Any help? Thanks in advance....

I have a set of shocks I will be taking out of my 2002 SRX. They are the Pioneer Performance long travel setup. I installed them last fall. Made my sled ride really nice. It uses Viper shafts in SRX shock bodies and a RX1 center spring. Both shocks have maybe 100 miles on them. Only reason I am getting rid of them is I went to Ohlins in the rear.

You use the oem limiter straps. And longer spacers on your transfer rods. I have those also. All you do is bolt it up. $300.00
