What is the best way to change the sliders on a SXR? Should you pull the slides out from the windows in the track or is it just the 6 bolts and pull the suspension out. Thanks in advance
 
Just pull them out from the windows. If you spray some WD 40 on them first
they will come off faster.
 
You can pull them through the track windows.A trick i learned to make it easy is to put a deck screw into the end of the slider,grab it with a pair of vise grips and pull it out through the window.Make sure you lube it up real good with wd40 as stated above.
 
Most people fail to mention a KEY part of this operation: STOCK Yamaha slides go on and come off 30 times easier than aftermarket. I have had an SRX, a Viper and an SX, and I've killed myself trying to save a few bucks buying cheaper slides. I finally went to the OEM Yamaha ones and I couldn't believe the difference.

Agreed and the cheaper ones seem to slice from the tapered edge on the rear of the rail, especially with the newer tracks that have the narrow windows.
 
Pull the skid out and go thru it at the same time. All your bushings need grease or even replacement and it's a good idea to go thru your skid thoroughly every season IMO.
 
Skids

I have all OEM parts so that should help. To take the skids out its just the six bolts correct. Any advise or tricks? Seeing I'm pulling the skid I'll grease it up and replace some wheels...
 
i put a 5 gallon bucket under each ski spindle and the back on the stand i have to keep track up and it is the perfect height to slip the rear suspension out ...plus you will need new bushings top and bottom of w arm most likely and make sure the shaft in the front mounts aint wore down at the ends ...look the w arm over real good ..and shim any play at bottom of w arm were bolts to the skid ...and mabe even drill and put grease zerts on bracket w arm mounts to on the alunium rail .also the shock bushings are probaly sloppy you might have to loosen it a bit to see instead of using the nylon bushing there is a actual roller bearing that can be incerted instead of plastic and seals to keep clean just depends on what kind of time and money you want to put into it ...cost about 120 for all new bushings and cross shaft ,and bearings and seals to do rear skid ...my skid has 2100 miles and its trash am getting a new skid ...i am in the process now here are all the parts you need to add bearings, seals, and the bushings and shaft for the w arm parts are for a srx not sure if different for sxr
