found a 01 SRX for sale that the owner says is having trouble starting. think i should stay clear of this problem or could it be an easy fix. this is what he wrote.....

"I put new sliders on, new track, new powervalve, brand new woody studs at the end of last season. everything has been re-greased and ready. there is the problem starting. i dont know much about engines so i haven't tried to fix it myself, but have been told by many that the problem is the jet pin/needle. i use a little quick start spray and she starts on 2 pulls"

any thoughts about this? he says it has 5800 km, looks like a nice sled otherwise and the price is within my budget.

thanks

Good point. Might have a weak hole, and the ether tightens things up. I had an old plow truck that was that way. Crank it forever and it wouldn't fire. One sniff of the can and it was running.

The powervalve is the question? When the cable end hammers out the powervalve slot that could hit the piston.Have the powervalves been sync? You need a harness and batt to do that.I've seen the tops of pistons on powervalve yamaha engines hammered right down to the ringland being gone....and still show 120 lbs. of compres.

Yeah u know werethe servo is? were the cables are hooked to the motor when u have yur sled on a stand u rev it up and make sure u see all of the cables moving when the motor turns them and make sure none of them are loose. if theres one really lose that mean u have a broken cable. or one of the power vavles are stuck..

thanks everyone, im going to take a look, that cant hurt. is there any quick way to check the power valves?

Bring a 4 mm allen wrench and pop off the piece right at the cylinder.... then you can tell if they are stuck in there or if the cable is broken/pulled thru.
Only takes a few seconds.

dont forget to check for spark

I had to change the plug boots and cables this past season, found out the hard way bt grabbing a boot and I got quite the ZZZZZZSZZZap!!!!

cheap insurance, to ensure max spark
