Just wondering?Considering a 2000 srx,and with the price of fuel I'd like to know...
TIA!
Yes.... requires a 91 octane rating..... Premium. But that can depend on where your gas comes from.. I have 93 here, which is pretty decent gas again depending on where you get it from. Some only have access to 87 or 89 reg or mid, which I here that they add octane boost to prevent detonation..

91 or higher recommended, but if it is bone stock you can get away with running 87 if you get out somewhere and that is all that is available as long as you dont hold it wide open across lake tops and go a little easy on it. If 91 or higher is available you should run it, now more than ever with some areas having blended fuel.

Really if you figured out how much more you spend using 91 rather than 87 i dont think it would be that excessive.

run 91 or higher, they run much better and are more efficient, more efficient=better fuel economy
Fuel requirements are really a part of the state of tune. The srx is pretty hot right from the factory and requires good fuel. The red head motors were pretty mild from the factory and didn't care what fuel they had. As the mods start happening to the redhead motor the quality of the fuel must go up as well. I'm not familiar with the viper motor, but the same would hold true. If it has power increasing mods it's going to need better fuel...
before i put pipes on my 700 redhead i could and somtimes did run 87 with no problems but now w/ pipes and head gasket mod i will not run anything but premium fuel its only a buck or2 more on a tankful and good insurance against detonation why gamble ? run the good stuff !!
think of it as insurance. depending how many miles you log annually, do the math. .20 more per gallon, 10+ gal per trip= $2.00. x that by 50 rides. $100. new cylinder $300+, down time, not being able to ride for a few weeks while waiting for parts and repairs, well, put a price on that. hope that helps put a new perspective on it.
