Thinking about changing to cat clutches on my SRX anyone know what belt to run? Can go with standard or bearcats what would be best?

I had one blow on my old ZR 600. Had to replace another with not many miles on it either.
You can use the cat roller secondary with the yammie belt. The cat helix,s are about 10 degrees higher then an equivelant yammie helix(56 cat = 46 yammie). The cat uses cheap-o plastic rollers that get hot & quick & changes the way the secondary shifts. Some guys use em cus they are cheap to buy & used helix,s are about $25.

As you could notice by my name I am a Cat guy. I just picked this sled up cheap to play with. It is a pretty good runner with a 1000 price topend and nitrous. But the clutching is way off so I need to do some work on it. I have all the cat clutch parts I would ever need and I have the machinery to make the jackshaft to run the Cat secondary. So it is a no brainer for me to switch to what I know and what I have available without spending a lot of money on trial and error clutching. BTW I have never had a cat clutch come apart on me. And I have been running the same one on a 250hp 1000 drag sled for 4 years. Also have a 210 hp 1998 ZRT with 12000 miles on the same clutch. good maintenance goes a long way. I do really like this SRX though. Even more now that I have a 128 skid from a Fire Cat in it. What a ride.
You can use the cat roller but your consistency is in the crapper.

Yamaha clutches are very durable, you could get a "Pin Kit" from Goodwin Performance which will allow you to run Cat weights. If you can machine up a new jackshaft to run the Cat secondary, it should be a "no brainer" to measure up the correct belt to run.
I saw a newer cat clutch LOCK UP last winter on the trail. It was stuck in the full shift position so you couldnt even start the sled.

Go with the cat driven with a button cover. I have one on my ps 1000 and they work fine. And helixs are not $100.00. And I would'nt run the yamaha primary either if it makes big power. Micro-belmont reactor or a p-85 will work better and safer. And run the 8dn belt.
Yamaha primary clutches seem to handle our 300+ hp turbo sleds nicely!!!

that's just what i was thinking. i've never seen a yamaha clutch blow apart or even fail in any way, but i've seen my cousins f7, blow parts of his secondary right out the side of the belly pan. f**king junk! and as far as a p-85 clutch...its a pita to even get a wrench or socket on the nuts/bolts that hold the weights on. polaris doesn't even have plastic thrust washers on each side of the clutch weights like yamaha does. i wouldn't recommend using anything, other than the yamaha clutches. if you want to have a roller secondary, there are many out there for the yamaha clutches. alot of us have setups, that would ball park you...tremorzrt.
STEP AWAY FROM THE CAT AND POLARIS CLUTCHES PEOPLE.

No problems here.

And the Yami 600cc twins never took out primary's prematurely?

shortstop, i don't think you have enough blue in your blood you got the bad@$$ R6, but you ride a polaris, you might as well throw in the towel now. because that thing is done this winter.

Well if I had 300+ hp I would not run a cast aluminum clutch of any kind for any length of time. And as far as the p-85 it is a very good clutch. They have thick sheaves and you don't see too many of them that crack unlike the yamaha. As far as the plastic washers they don't need them as long as the weight bushings and everything is in good working order. As with any clutch. Not a bash as I do ride yamaha just that is what I have found in my travels.
