Need advice on bog/gas consumption????

About the only thing I can think of is the fuel pump is pumping to much fuel. BUT if that was the case, it would a seized it right? Due to to much fuel not enuf oil??
 
If the problem started after you re-jetted it, more than likely that's where the problem lies. Were the jets new, or used? I've seen jets cleaned with a welding tip cleaner get reamed out and flow more fuel than they are suppose to. If it is running really rich, and then you go off the trail and snow starts blocking some of the air flow...of course it will run even richer and fall on its face. All I know is that if a problem shows itself after I've messed with something, that's the first place to start for the cure.
 
Jets were brand new. Last trip out if was running bad even on the trails. Leaned it out about as far as the Vari-Flo will go and ran good,not great.

What about the choke needles are they seating all the way back when you turn the choke off??
 
They did when I had the carbs off. I will check that they do when they are on the sled.

if confident about carbs, next to examine is clutching.... if you're not backshifting soon enough you'll both bog, flood and consume fuel...

is your clutching near stock?... if not, there are some clutching gods on here that can help, as one has already been mentioned... I'm not really a clutching savant....


also... earlier you mentioned reeds,,, did you check them?

I think the reeds could be replaced becasue the sled has around 5000 miles on it. But I pulled the carbs and looked at the reeds, they look fine.

Clutching is also set to stock specs for 6000 feet.

But we can lean the he!! out of it using vari-flo, and then it works.
 
It may be electric, which might explain why it takes so long to clear up. Check you wiring harness out real good, and all connections. Stating the obvious but it sure sounds like something is actually wrong somewhere rather than simply a poor state of tune.
 
when its running poor if you pull plugs do they look the same (color dry wet)?to me it kinda sounds like your dumping a cylinder either electrical or fuel, check resistance of caps, if fuel pump is leaking i beleive it will only make one cylinder run rich, if you can check temp of exhaust close to cylinders when running poor, they should be close not exactly the same, your vary flo could be faulty leaking, cracked,not familular with vary flo, or bad stator to weak of a spark, just my thoughts
 
I can't say the color of the plugs, I don't remember.


I do know that when it was acting up, I would hold it WOT, it would be cutting out running likes it rich. I would barely pull the choke on and it would darn near die.
 
check plug cap resistance,check for harness rub though, check float level,check enrichiners are seated when assembled, does your sled have tors? does sled idle good and only screw up when your on throttle?

what should resistance be? never thought to do that, is it a know problem?

Float level has be checked.

Enrichers is something I am going to double check!

It has TORS, bypassed and still does the same thing

Idles fine, just when you get on the throttle it starts.

well if it idles fine then enricheners should be seated ok, i dont have the spec for caps but there are guys here that i hope will help you with that, i have red that this is a problem but never experienced it personally,i would also look into harness rub through from what ive red this is common too under motor and by brake i believe, less common but happens is weak stator,faulty cdi, i dont have the spec on the stator but its in the repair manual if someone here has that, and i think you can only check the inputs to the cdi maybe the out puts not sure, now if its a steady problem, i would lean toward the caps/stator/cdi but if its intermitent look for rub through, the weaker the spark the the richer it will seem like its running and in effect you will use more fuel because you will use more throttle trying to make power. just my thoughts trying to help
