So I want to upgrade the rear suspension in my 01 SRX and was considering a couple options, mostly either long travel shocks or a whole new skid.

Well I forund both a Polaris Xtra 10 and a Polaris Xtra 12 rear skid for sale for about the same price as a pair of viper rear shocks.

So far all I know is that the 10 and 12 roughly indicate the inches of travel of the skid....rite? I've heard from a few others on the site that they like the Xtra 10 they have put in their SRX's but what about an Xtra 12? Does the Xtra 12 not fit or what? I've heard the Xtra 10 pretty much bolts rite in but I havent heard many details. Is it really that easy? I ride mostly LP MI trails so the more travel the better. Can anybody give me some advice on which one to get? Thanks!

No it doesn't just bolt right in. You have to drill some holes, make some shims, etc... Pretty simple though. The x-12 I don't think ever really caught on. I've heard that they ride nice, but I think that they are pretty prone to bottoming. No real experience so I just going off of what I think I've read.

I have some experience with the extra 10 and wouldn't waste my time putting one in. I long traveled my SRX with the Viper shocks and it does better than my son in law's Polaris with the extra 10. They are proned to bending the cross are in the front along with the H arm (from a Polaris guy, not me)...and we in fact need these parts to fix my son in law's sled before this season.
I have no experience with the extra 12.

Good luck

I actually just stumbled on these two skids yesterday and was curious what everyone thought. If I had my way I'd be puttin an M10 in it but I dont have the money for that at the moment. These were cheap and I was just wonderin if it would be worth while to get and use for the next season or two untill I get an M10 or if I should sitck to my original plan and keep looking for some viper shocks to use until then.

-Just lookin for thoughts on this. I havent decided if I gonna pick one of these up or not yet.

thanks

If the plan is to buy a M-10 I'd just ride what I had and be happy. The $$ you'll spend on any of them is money you could put towards the new skid. When I went to the Holz x-10 I have now the plan was that it's the last skid I'll put in there. I'm happy with it. I wouldn't have done it if I was planning to put something else in it the next year. It's your money though.

Well, originally I figured I'd put some Viper shocks in there for now cuz I'm not really to sure when I'll actually get around to gettin the M10. I figured I can always sell the whatever I put in there once I do get it tho. Like I said I'm not sure what I'm gonna do at this point, just throwin some ideas out there
