Hi everybody, I bought a 96 vmax last year. One of the front shocks doesn't have much response. Has any one rebuilt one of these before? Thanks for your help.

I am relitevely sure you can't rebuild them.

I believe the xt's you could rebuild.
Hmm...?
The guys at my local shop say they can do it for $100 a shock + parts.
I've had them do some other things and unfortunately I haven't been very happy with their work.
My bother and I have rebuilt the top end and it runs great. I think we could handle the front shock if we had a little insight...
So I'm still asking how....
Thanks guys.
PS. Hey Braindead I have a gyt twin pipe on my 96 too. I have the stock jets in it I believe they're 152.5 I noticed your sled is .020 over that probably make a difference too. I thought I'd ask you about the jetting though, any thoughts? Thank you.

Mine is the next size up on the jets i think i will have to look next month when i clean the carbs on the sleds. the .020 was due to blowin the engine and driving it 30 miles back to the cabin
(but it made it back)
The size did seem to add a tiny bit more to it but it could just be cause i rebuilt the engine that i felt the power.
You want to make sure they aren't burning too lean with those pipes they will burn it down in a hurry if so.
A couple things on the Pipes they are great about 5700-7200rpm so you have to pay attention on the trails if you come out of a corner at 5600 and bump it you will hall out of there which isn't always a good thing
.
If you haven't rode it yet make sure to do the clutches as they need to be adjusted for the new powerband.
