Could you guys tell me the difference between an 03 viper 700 and the 03 Rx-1. I know the Rx-1 is a 4 stroke but what was the sled designed to do or what conditions was it made to ride in?

well, they are apples and oranges in comparison, maybe a better way to get what your looking for is to describe what kind of riding do you do?

Both sleds have thier good point and both have bad points, maybe a description on your riding style and type would yield a better match sled for you.

I ride groomed trails in Ma. and NH. Right now I have 2 03 vipers that I bought at the end of the year and have not had a chance to ride them yet. 1 is a ER with 1800 miles and all stock and the other is a blue 700 with rev, clutch kit , v force reeds and 96 pics down the middle. I was thinking about the rx-1 but I am not sure how it is on groomed trails that sometimes get tight and bumpy

The 2003 rx1 was the first of the four stroke line up. It handled awful. Don't buy the 03-04 machines. Starting with the 2005 they handled much better and became a much improved machine.

Just got rid of my 03 RX-1 and bought an 03 Viper. The RX-1 was a nightmare to drive. If you were running lakes all the time and didn't have to steer, it was great. In the bush trails it was like driving a school bus!!! In any kind of deep snow it will sink just from the weight of the machine. My main reason for getting rid of it was that I simply didn't feel safe on that sled. It always felt like it would easily roll over which it did 3 times. I haven't rode the Viper yet but I'm expecting a big difference. IMO stay far away from 03,04 RX-1 unless you are planning on doing all the mods for handling. Oh ya, you will have a 50-50 chance of one that burns oil. Mine went through 1 litre for every 800-1000kms.

I have riddin SRX's, Vipers, Pogo Vmaxs, newer Vmaxs and now bought an 03 RX1 this summer. I ride mostly state trails here in central to northern Maine so I am hoping the RX1 will be good as my viper I rode last year but with more power and little better ride. My RX1 has olins rear shocks and most of the updates done to it so I am hoping....... The best trial machine I ever rode was my SRX with upgraded rear suspension which was built for the UP ( Michigan) trails and northern Maine trail system!!! I am looking forward to trying that RX1 motor!!!!!!!

Someone has to stick up for the RX1.

I have a Viper02, RX-103 and a SRX01. The viper handles the best and is the best option for tight trails but it is relatively slow. The Srx is fast but not as fast as the RX-1. I raced when my SRX was stock and my RX-1 had 1000 miles and a simons cpr clutch kit...the RX1 was consistently faster even with a heavier rider.

If you add Simmons skis and a 13mm sway bar on the Rx-1 it handles fine.
I also have Ohlins shocks all around which helps too.

If I would have to choose between all the 3 machines stock I would say get the Viper, but if you are willing to spend some money and setup it properly I would take the RX-1 overall because the engine is so sweet. It will also last you far longer and take less money to operate.

The Rx-1 motor is just awesome.

One of the guys we snowmobile with has an 03' RX1 and with the stock track the throttle was little more than a volume control dispite our attempts at getting more transfer, my SRX would eat it for lunch. Adding a 1 1/2 inch track made all the differance in the world, the thing really rips now. If you get the RX1, I would highly suggest getting a better track for it.
