2001 Mountain Max 700 performance mods?

Hello, new to this forum, I appreciate all the great information you guys give and have on this site. I just picked up a 2001 Mountain Max 700 deep snow special with 141" 2" track, with only 1000 miles on it. From what I have read, this is a great sled, but needs some mods to wake up the engine. Can you guys recommend somes mods that will get the most out of this sled? Any tips on this sled would also be appreciated. Thank You.
 
Clutching (weights, helix, spring), triple pipe and can, jetting to match, new track (if it still has the old yokohama), porting the track, lightweight brake rotor (anything to reduce rotational mass). I'm sure others will get more detailed...oh and get rid of the stock skis if it still has them on there. Get simmons or powder pro's, anything but. Mine went from a nose-diving bucket of bricks to a floater when I did.

2 best things done to my MM is 151 and triple pipes. Make it 3, change skis. Those stock ones are a joke.
 
If you can find some, get a set of end dump Power Inc Pipes, work awesome with porting, had CPRs worked great until they started to heat soak, then lost power, until you open the hood to cool them off. Heard good things about Bender too. Get a Polaris skid, and get rid of that stock track.

Reed spacers, notch reeds, 1 layer headgskt and some gearing will give you affordable gains and easily done by yourself say $100 bucks or less that is if you are on a budget
 
Thank You everyone for your help. I picked up the sleds yesterday, the people that owned them were older and knew very little about the snowmobiles, as they had only owned them for a year and put only 100 or so miles on them. I bought 2 identical 2001 MM 700 from them. Both have the 141" 2" track. One of them had the 2 suspension wheels on the outside of the metal slide up front on each side and 2 wheels in the middle of the track on a shaft towards the back in front of the straps. The other sled did not have any of these wheels. When I questioned the owner about that, his only comment was the previous owner had the one missing the wheels"set up more firm" Can anyone shed some light on this for me? And is this Safe to run this way. There is no damage to any of this area, so I assume they were removed by the previous owner. Both tracks are the same brand. Thank You for your input.

The wheels help reduce friction wear on the slides in marginal snow conditions. If you ride trails, leave them on. If you are going to use the sleds in off-trail powder conditions only, take them off. They just add more weight. And yes, it is safe to run that way, you only run the risk of burning thru slides quicker if you ride a lot on trails.
 
If you take the skid off for any reason, put 8 tooth anti ratchet drivers on. If you'r an off trail rider do a 153" x 15 " camoplast maverick track. Gear it down some, for off trail. Raise the bars so it is comfortable to ride standing and to get more leverage. Good powder ski's.These mods make it more fun off the trail. I had a 2001 mtn max and loved it. I have friends with them that have close to 9,000 miles on them with just a re-ring. If you'r a trail rider forget everything I said and go for more engine performance.
