has anyone tried to put a HID in their sled? I have a 1998 SRX that im thinking of trying it out in. I know when I rode last season I just didnt have enough light. I recently purchased a set for my motorcycle and they are sweet.

Thanks,

I didn't think our stator especially without a battery would be strong enough to support the initial current demand when turning them on?

The link is for 4 strokes setup. Different beast.

Phatboy is exactly right the initial ignition of the HID is the problem it draws alot of current from the sleds system, i have yet to try it cause of this.

The only people i have seen succesful were using a capacitor to store power for initial ignition of the bulb.

I thought the advantage of HIDs were that they draw less power than regular lights? I should try them in my sled, I got a few pairs for our tractors/combines ect on ebay for $59 with the ballasts and bulbs

It's the initial start up of the bulb that draws the big power. Once they're lit they only draw something like 35 watts.

I think most kits only draw 35 watts. There are some "off-road" kits that pull 55 watts just like a "normal" halogen and it's supposed to be amazing output. Been thinking of a set of these in the fog lights of my car. With proper cutouts etc of course.

I got them installed in my motorcycle and they are a huge improvement. 55W 10k 2 H7 bulbs for 200 bucks. I think im gonna order a set of 35W 8K and use one bulb in each of my sleds.

the 5k's shine the furthest. The the higher temps have the neat color to them but the whiter the light the farther you can see.

4300 to 5000k put out the most light higher than that they go blue to purple , some may think they look cool . but its light that you really whant . i have 4300 on my bike and sled . on the sled the POOR SAPS in front of me ride seeing there shadow . the CHEEPO KITS ARE THAT #$%&*
get a decent kit . german or japan made

So can they be installed and work properly in a stock SRX? Has anyone tried it? Success stories please...

I have these in my 04 viper no battery no proplem. Whoever is in front of me also enjoys the xtra bright lights.
I would recomend them to anyone who wants brighter lights.

Hey Captain, did you install the H-4 55/100 watt Brite Lite X-Bulbs from Bluhm? How do they work? How long do the last? Are they durable/ reliable?

If you can find a set of 3000K these are the best penetration for snow and fog which is pretty much what we ride in !! I have everything ready to drop in mine including a battery so I should have no issues. And yea, I bought a good set of Bi-xenon with a shield on the bulb so I'm not blinding everyone on the trails !! Anyone who complains about HID bulbs needs to think back about 15 years when the halogens were coming out !! Any of you old heads on here remember them old pathetic yellow lights we used to have !!!! Everyone will eventually adapt to the HID's just like we did the halogens.

Pipd'...how are you running that system? I thought about that on my srx but no e-start/battery. Adding a battery doesn't bother me but I don't want to have to go through the whole electric start add.
