Im looking at a 1999 yamaha srx 700 a lady has for sale for her son. He now lives in texas with his wife. I went to look at it and she has it sitting behind a barn with no cover, the miles read 1700 but it looks like her son rode it very hard. There is damage a little damage to the tunnel where it looks like he rode over something. They painted the barn and got red and white overspray all over the sled. It is a little faded and the metal on it is starting to rust. The motor looks pretty good just full of wasp nests and dust. She said he had work done to it when he had it for $1200, but as it sits now i can not get it to start up, changed the plugs and dumped gas down cylinders but a no go. Her husband knows nothing about motors and said it has sat on the pallet its on for at least two years and has not been started and the registration says 2001. The condition of the sled visually i would say is a 4 or 5 out of 10. She wants alot for it but i was thinking of making her a offer of $500 cash as it sits. Im hoping the gas just got bad and if i clean the carbs and drain the bad gas it will fire up. What do you guys think?

Yea i'd say between 500-900 bucks, the Carelessness isnn't a plus, I want to go up to these people and tell them to COVER THE SLED UP, its common sense to move it, if your painting a barn.... Please save this yamaha.

Offer her $500 give your phone number and walk away. If they want to haggle, you can really play the neglect side of the sled etc etc...
I wouldn't pay more than $500 as you can buy trail ready srx's as low as $1200.
Just my opinion, its your money.

Yeah, not running I wouldnt pay too much for it either, who knows what goin on in there. I paid $800 for my roll-over but it still started on the second pull and only had 1100 miles on it. Front suspension and hood were toast but it was mostly cosmetic....
ya sitting outside for 2 years can cause the pistons and jugs to start to rust and the niscal will start to chip ..not to mention the bearings in lower end ....and any dryrot that might have happened in the past .and not covering it when you paint ....neglecting a yamaha like that is a sin .....
