Is there any noted cooling issues with this sled...like bad water pump...hoses located in wrong place that rub thru or any other issues that anyone has found...Here is the problem
Friend of mine bought a 01 SRX 700 that was blown up...he knew it when he bought it and he bought it CHEAP.....Had no coolant in it and all 3 pistons were stuck...pistons were eat away at the crown on the exhaust side...just trying to figure out where the coolant went ...cant see anything but might have missed something so thought i would ask if there is any noted problems or areas to check...sled has 2800 miles on it ...Anyone have any ideas...I havent pulled the engine down yet.....just pulled the heads to see the damage...All he knows about the sled is that it was running and it quit when it stuck and that it had no coolant in it....Am open for any ideas as to where the coolant went or did it just get hot from maybe lack of lube or something like that....sliders are pretty thin.....Thanks

before you tore it apart, you should have filled it up and pressure checked the system, have seen some throw a stud out of the track and poke a hole thru front heat exchanger, seen waterpump lower hose rub thru by right side motor mount. No issues with cooling system in a srx, all good. My guess is it has a hole in the system and lead to engine failure. Are the heads discolored blue on the outside?

yes the heads are discolored....Am going to the shop will check for hose that might have rubbed thru and will check heat exchamgers also...The o-rings in the heads were completely melted so not sure if i would have been able to pressure check system anyway....Thanks
Before you put it back together, I would deck the cylinders both top and bottom and deck the heads to get everything "straight" again if your gonna reuse any of the old topend. I dont know if its good or not but just a tip to save you some aggravation later.

Yup you have to check all hoses. Check some of the spring loaded hose clamps, they can cause havoc on the hoses. Reposition the clamp to clear the hoses.

mine had a rub mark last year when i tore it apart, same exact spot. Wasnt leaking but i figured while it was apart it be best to change it anyways. I cut a small piece out of the old one and wrapped it around the new one where the rub mark was. Hopefully cure the rubbing
