My buddy has a bender can on his sled and we are wondering if its easier to make the bender can quieter (baffle it) or to remove baffling in the stock can to make it louder.....
Thanks
Thanks
What sled??

If you are taking about a SRX, the can has sound insulation in it. If you want to make it quieter put new insulation in it, the old insulation is probably burnt out. On the other hand, if you remove the insulation the can becomes very loud. IMO I wouldn't mess with the baffles at all.

The loss (if any) is insignificant, show me the charts that show the loss of speed....
Its a 99 srx

I can see you wanting to lighten the stock can (it is a heavy beast), but why would you want to make it louder? I don't expect removing some baffling would make more than a pound or two of difference and would just make it louder for the sake of being loud. Shoot, if that is your goal, why run a can at all?
I think most would agree here that Yamaha did a pretty good job with the OEM pipes and can (other than weight) and would be the last thing to change for performance enhancement.

you souldnt mess with the can the pipes on a srx are very heat sensitive they need to be hot to work if you gut the can the pipes will have a harder time to stay hot.the idea is to get exhaust speeds faster heat does this

...eyeroll...
try repacking the bender can, i know mine burnt out after awhile too. If the bender is too loud for your tastes otherwise, I think the only option would be the stock can. I think bender has one of the quiter cans for the SRX?

Only reason i'm asking is for a buddy other wise i wouldnt of even brought this up, reason being, he got a ticket last season for 160 bucks, and bitched at the dealer that sold him the sled, so they gave him a stock can free of charge. now hes trying to decide if he wants to sacrafice the sound or risk getting another ticket...
YammieGod, i have a "welll set up" srx with a stock can, a well set up srx that is completely stock,

closed trails? i have never road my sled on a trail just boondocking ....but that is cool for the dealer to foot one.. i would def check the packing just to see if its out before you put that lead weight back on.... if he only trail rides then the weight should not be that much of a hp loss.... what is it like 10-15 lbs vs 5-10

i would imagine a very minimal hp lost, com'n its an srx!
Well he blew a 92 and the legal limit is 88 soooo i think the can is fine, its just louder.

yea a 1-2 HP gain or loss from a silencer isn't going to be noticeable, the tone and wieght are though, a race would more likely come down to how the machine is set up and the riders abilities. Plus i have read on here about someone who said they actually dynoed different silencers and claimed the bender did gain 2 HP, so I don't know how people can say it's going to make the sled slower vs a stock can when they really have no proof and just go off what everyone else bieleves

we have tried cans on them we actually had probs on one the only way we could get the exhaust temp up was to jet down thats not a good idea on a long pull

Out in Colorado loud pipes and almost a thing of the past. Most loud pipes are newbies or riders from out of State. The rest of us want to keep our access open. I must admit that loud pipes really do impress the SPORS.
