Got started on welding the hinges on today. I found a plastic weld kit at menards for $20, it's just a soldering iron with a pie shaped brass tip. I started out by tacking the tab in place, then I cut a small piece of stainless screen and melted it into the plastic to reinforce it, then add filler material over top of that. For filler I used strips of an old hood I had. I still need to add more filler and smooth everything out,. I put a lot of pressure on the tab and it didn't crack or break, looks like it'll be a good strong fix. I'll post more pic's when it's all done.

Ya did good. A pencil type torch works well to.

I lowered my hood cables on both sides to reduce "fatiguing" stress on the hinge area.

It's finished! I added some gussets for extra strength and wrapped everything in aluminum foil tape.

I thought about using one of those pencil torches, I saw this unit at menards and figured I'd give it a try, the brass head on it works really nice for smoothing things out.

Nice job man! I have a cracked SRX hood that have been poorly repaired by the privious owner and I am about to cut it open. By doing so I think I need to use some filler material but is unsure which type of plastic it is, do know which kind of plastic material the hood is made of?Got started on welding the hinges on today. If you have access to this Fusor product? It is the best product for the yamaha polyurethane hoods. I have used it for years amazing product.
It comes with a mesh as well.
Trouble with fiberglass is...the hot to cold expansion rate is way different and over a short period of time the fiberglass products will delaminted from the polyurethane.
