i want to put a 97 redhead 700 into a 98 mountain srx reason why? dont have money to repair blown srx motor but my readhead runs great wonderin if anybody has done anything like this
Pops whats wrong with the srx motor? For all the problems your going to have, you might be able to repair it with used parts from here. Your going to have to change all the wiring, I don't know if the exhaust would line up but anything is possible, My roomate and i installed a Viper motor in a SRX and there was lots of bugs to work out.
We did this for the same reasons as you and the following year he rebuilt the SRX motor but for all the hassels for a year it was not worth it.

The motor will fit, and mount fine, but you will need to run the entire ignition from an SX. I run an SX bottom end on my 1136cc race motor in my SRX chassis.
well i have a complete and well running 97 sx but always wanted a srx so my thought would be to install the sx motor and run it this season like that, while searching for used srx engine parts to redo the original srx engine over time. money is very tight right now so maybe that would explain this madness emphasis on money being very tight

i would not do it.....your machine will probably be slower with the red head compared to the SRX...what is wrng with the srx, maybe a cheap fix.
yes i already know and accept the fact that it would be slower and i am okay w/that untill the srx motor has been repaired. i have not bought the srx yet as i am trying to put the money together to buy it. but once i do the motor will need crank and center cyl .
