hello everyone i am new to this site and have just bought a 2003 viper er. it has 214 miles on it and was bought as a leftover in 05. it has not been ran last year, and the battery is dead. i started it up yesterday and the digital speedo gauge was doing some funny stuff. it would come on when giving it gas, and at a idle it would shut off and a little warning light would come on right before the gauge would turn off. is this something to do with the battery, or dose anyone have any idas of y its doing this.

Yeah...its the battery...charge it..or replace it...and you should be good...Congrats on yer ride..you'll love it...and welcome aboard to TY...

Not too familiar with the sled but I have worked on a few other vehicles that have had similar issues. Yes, it is related to the batery issue. The speedo and whatever else electrical related that is running is drawing power faster than the sleds charging system can compenstate. With the dead battery, there is no place for the charging system to store the extra "power" and make up for this. With a new battery it should be able to cover that gap and work just fine. Again, I'm no expert just my technical opinion. I'm sure someone on the site will be able to provide more specfics then me.

Welcome to the site! TY is an awesome place for an abundance of info on just about anything Yamaha and the people here are always top notch. Glad to have ya! :wel: :rocks:

Yes, it's the Battery , mine did the same thing when I started last year. I replaced the battery as it would not take a charge. I put a trickle charger on it twice this summer and battery is fine this year! Enjoy your new sled and good luck!
