i was going thru my carbs on my srx and noticed the plastic ring around the main jet fits loose.i remember a thread about this but cant find it.any suggestions about what to do?i think its purpose is to prevent fuel sloshing around by the main jet so i hate to take it out.

Haven't been on there for over 4 years. We didn't know until we cleaned the carbs ourselves at the beginning of last year.

my main concern is that if they slide on to far while installing the bowls it will prevent the float from fully opening the inlet needle.

Mine seem pretty loose as well - you can pull them off pretty easily. When I put the bowls back on, I made sure the carb rack was sitting upright and was careful. They did seem more loose than I remembered.

I'm wondering what could really happen with these, like if they could slide up and obstruct the float like hanker37 said. But if they are so loose, wouldn't vibration and gravity just bring them to the bottom of the bowl anyway where they belong? I can't really think of anything else that would happen, unless they did get stuck up and then didn't serve their purpose of keeping fuel around the jet.

Some times they dry right out & when you try & remove them they break a small ear off on the inside making them extra loose...like hanker37 said...if there yellow change them out, a sign that they dried out over a long storage period...
