I did a 151 on an '05 Mtn Viper and wish I had went to a 159 or longer. With the extra weight of a Yamaha you'll need the length to keep it floating especially if you ride in the steep and deep. The Viper has plenty of power to turn a longer track and handling wise I don't think you'll notice the difference.

I've used both MPI's and Hartmans stuff although it's been a few years since I've looked into their long track kits, I was never a fan of moving the "W" (or "H" arm) on the skid. Heck, i'm not even sure if Hartman's kits still do that... I've used MPI's stuff several times and have never looked back.

Oh, and I would stay away from the 156" as your track choices are pretty limited. Make sure you also get some Extrovert drivers since you'll already have the track off, those skids cause the track to rachet like crazy!

i recently installed a 151 into a 144 mtn viper. believe it or not, it fits without tunnel extension. only 3.5" longer in the stock tunnel. check the pics in "summer projects underway", located in the "working log" section. that skid is a 2000 mtn max skid with rail extensions. will give update and feedback after i ride it.

Mine has the Hartman with 156" ported track. I bought my sled used but the owner did it from the sled being new. Rides good for my body size. And I installed 2 Ohlins in the back suspension. Sometimes kind of wished it wasnt a 156 just because I dont ride in the mountains as much as I use to. Plus I think more track speed in a 144" would help you climb higher, just wont have the floating of a 156"

sounds like you need to put some heavier weights in the clutch the viper max's out for power around 8500 - 8600 after that it starts dropping off just FYI for those who didnt know I just got done putting a 162 on mine have not tried it out yet but I am thinking with a set a heel clicker weights and gear it down a tooth it will rock

AK is running SLP's, peak hp is 8900rpm...he's spot on. And getting the same track speed climbing as I do with my 144 with same stock gearing, pretty impressive. Sometimes I wonder if I could go down a tooth on my driven and actually gain track speed. These things came geared to turn a 144 with 120hp, now with pipes it's more like 145-150hp. Maybe some day I'll try it.

Hey Snowdad,

I know you posted this some time ago, but would have any pics of the 151" track in the Mnt Viper with the stock/oem tunnel extension?????

I have a 151" track and want to put it in my Mnt Viper as my 144" track is shot. It seems it would fit just fine. I really don't want to mess with tunnel extensions.

Is there something I'm missing?!?!?!?!? Any horror stories out there from people doing this? I imagine the biggest risk is sucking the snow flap in, but I don't have reverse.

Thx everyone!

Not apples to apples, but I've got a 144 on my wife's mountain max with the stock 136 extension. I had to add a couple rubber straps from the tunnel to the flap to keep it from getting suck in. Other than that no issues in 2 years now.

Thx Ryan!!!! Has she ever had issues with the flap being sucked in? When would it typically happen? Occasional thing or all the time?

Anybody have thoughts or pics on this issue?

It was all the time until I put the straps on it. Anything that would cause the suspension to cycle would allow the flap to be sucked into the track. If you send me an email address I'll snap a pic of my solution in the next day or so and send it your way.

We have put a 153" track and a Nytro MTX skid with tipped up rails in our Viper Mtn. Didn't extend the tunnel but we had some issues with the track hitting in the very back where the flap mount is when the skid bottomed out. We have never had the flap get sucked in yet. I believe a 151" should easily fit with no tunnel mods needed. We made some brackets and have the skid mounted another hole below the bottom one on the drop brackets. It does work for now until we fix up a tunnel extension or figure something out.

We are running a 153"x2.25"x15" 3.0pitch track with the lugs cut down to about 2" since we were hitting the front cooler. We are also running 7 tooth drivers with extroverts which also came from a Nytro MTX. We pressed the old 2.52 pitch drivers off and put the 3.0 pitch drivers on. Any questions of if you want pictures of this setup just ask and I'll be happy to get some for you. PM'ing me might be the fastest way to let me know since I don't always see some of the replys to my posts.

EDIT: This is on an 05 Viper Mountain which came with the Pro Mountain suspension and not the Pro Action so the Nytro skid was a direct swap for us with the only difference in the 2 being the rails

go to page 4 in the working log section, post entitled "summer project underway", pics of it there. computer retard here, dont know how to bring over the link. the only issue we have had with it is the occasional sucking of the snowflap.
