Running board coolers in the tunnel??

I'd like to try and relocate the coolers on my running boards into the tunnel.
Has anyone ever done this? Can it be done? If not what was the problem.

I'm trying to open up the running boards to get rid of snow build up. ;)!
 
i have tunnel heat exchangers in both my 800sxr & 835 srx. this is in addition to the existing running board exchangers. bender sells the kit.

I never get snow build up on my running boards, it always melts away from the heat the exchanger puts off. But , I will say that I dont do alot of off trail or deep powder riding so maybe thats why.
 
AKMtnViper wouldn't the plates on the running boards melt the snow off them??? Either in the powder or on hardpack?
 
Bravo-guy, I think thats what he basicaly said. He's never had a problem. Dragin( the original post) was the one having issues.
 
I'm with akmntviper, never had a problem with it icing up on my boards. I LOVE the way the exchangers melt it off.
 
It's worth doing if you have problems with the cooling or going Big-bore, piped etc.

I'll put my coolers in the tunnel. Mostly because I want to widen my boards and put some kind of "better boards" on for some more grip.
Stock one are like a ice skating course!!!

By all means go ahead if you want too, but if your feet are slipping on the stock running boards I would tend to blame your boots, not the boards. I ride with a 6 foot 10 inch, size 13 boot man that has no problems slipping or fitting his feet on the boards. He wears Klim boots. I am not arguing with you, just looking for other cheaper solutions then modifying the sled.

It costs you nothing..? If you have the tools of course.
I mean you just reuse your OEM stuff that you already have on the sled.

Well, it will cost you some hours in the workshop, but maybe it's just me that like to modify my sled

I agree with you if the mod is a real improvement. I mod my sleds all the time, but only if I'm sure I gain something for my time, effort and $. :wink:

that is what i have on my sled is a doo cooler, it came out great! but was alot of work, plus you have to raise ur gas tank because of where the cooler comes through the tunnel, lot of work but is worth the effort

Im working on corverting to 144" right now, and this is something i would be interested in doing. I'm a little leary about the crossover tube, i mean the rear cooler was there for a reason. Anybody have any overheating issues without the rear cooler??

Now would it be ridiculous to leave the running board coolers and install another set in the tunnel?? I have a spair set and would be a cheap mod.

But i wonder if there is such a thing as too many coolers, especially big ones. Maybe it will restrict the flow to much??

What do you guys think?

Hi, I had the Idea to to put three coolers in the tunnel (same as from the boards).
But I soon realized that it wouldn't gane anything to the flow would be a problem after some calculations.

And also, the cooling gane of putting them up in the tunnel, would able you to loose the rear cooler. But I may have calculated wrong so please come with some more ideas!

do you have any pics of the cooler installed?
 
Your right the snow does melt some of the snow but when I stop on a cold day and turn the motor off they freeze up and then my twig and berrys make contact with the tank! #$%&* Just thought this could be a remedy.
