Who had racheting issues when changing to standard 8 tooth drivers?

Still banging my head on this issue. I want to add a 1.25" track to my SRX. I already have the 8 tooth drivers ready to put on and have been reading the recommendations to get anti racheting drivers. At another $160 bucks, my pockets are getting empty!! I would like to know how many people actually had racheting problems with their 8 tooth 121" change?

Mine ratcheted bad. HP plays a role so if your modified the worse your problem will be. When your studs hook up in the hardpack you will ratchet. Are you planning to stud the track? I'm guessing yes because your making clearance for studs. Get a fully clipped Predator track and run the extroverts. This way you can run your track on the loose side. If you run the 8 tooth standard drivers you will need to run the track banjo tight.
 
just run the 9 tooth drivers, leave the guards in, clip the track over the windows down to 3/4in off the floor of the track to clear the guards. install 1.18-1.2 studs, 144 down the center. these studs will stick through 1/4in and will clear, ive run them with a ripsaw in that chassis.

dont believe the lengths of studs that are given. all studs measure different and most tracks are different thicknesses. 8tooth drivers rob speed and grip on the track. I would sooner roll the chain case for clearence for longer studs than run a set of 8tooth.
 
Save your $$ ski-doo extroverts are proven performers and are way cheaper then most if not ALL aftermarket drivers, they sell for $50 us at your local skidoo dealer. Mike Knapp seems to like them on his Vmax 4 so they must be somewhat decent! Here are the parts numbers, these come in 1" and 1-1/16" shaft diameter......1" will need to be pressed on.

I have 8 tooth right now and am waiting for a set of anti ratchets in the mail. my srx ratchets bad if i dont have it banjo tight, i know i am robbing alot of power from it being so tight, too much drag and eats sliders. i like bethevipers idea though, smaller drives do rob speed and grip like he said, ive never looked into rolling chaincaise though, dont know how expensive that would be. a fully clipped track helps alot all by itself and if you decide to go with anti ratchets you would have to clipp every window anyways. i may look into the chaincase idea, if its not too expensive...since you would be spending a bit anyways if you do antiratchets.

p.s. i forgot to mention my clutch dont engage until about 4200 rpm so i may be a little more prone to ratcheting than most when i holeshot.

Left everything alone. Added a 1.25" track and studs and ran it 1200 miles with no problems.
 
another thing to think about is gear changes when going to 8 tooth, just got mine back together with wahl bros 8 tooth drivers. I don't understand how 8 tooth will lose speed if you make the gear ratio back to what you had previously with the 9 tooth. But the gears will again have you spending more money. I went to a 21/39 gears which put me as close as i could get to the same final ratio as the 9 tooth.

why you here that is because your now turning the track around a tighter radius which causes more rolling resistance, thats why the racers go to bigger rear axle wheels and bigger drivers, not really a concern for a trail sled
