Would you guys reuse this head or is it a bad idea. Dont want to spend the money if I dont have to since the sled isnt worth much anymore. Its off a 99 vmax 500

don't reuse that head....this ain't china! go and shop on ebay. they are on there for like $10-$25. you can afford that. i don't care if you have a job or not....you can afford that.
blueblood, That link you sent is for an sxr, is that the same head? If so what other parts are interchangeable? I need a cylinder to.

a '00 500 sx-r head is different than a '99 500 head....at least the part numbers are different.

I know the part numbers are different but i think it will still work.Just like the 98-99 srx heads on a 00-02 srx, different part numbers but you can interchange them.
they bumped the compression on the 500's in 2000-01. i was told not to do the head gasket mod to my 01 as i would need to run race gas in it if i did that. i would check and see if there was a porting difference in any of the years. otherwise the cylinders will bolt right on.

For what its worth my 600 has a head that was not quite that bad. I polished it smooth again and have nearly 2000 miles on it since.
so if the compression is different on the sxr head wil it affect my motor? can I use this sxr head or not? I dont know alot about engines like this.
you can use the head with a stock yamaha gasket. it will have a bit more power fron higher compression is all. you will want to check the jetting anyways to prevent another burndown after you get it running.
I have only run stock everything in the carbs, What should I do as far as rejetting? I think my carbs were real dirty. Could that have caused a lean condition and a burn down? How woulld I go about figuring out what needs to be done to the carbs?

yes, dirty carbs = lean issue, which = burndown.....for the most part. exception is if the air jets are dirty, it would cause a rich condition, because not as much air is mixing in w/the main circuit.
