Hey guys wanted to see what you guys think about this race? RX! VS SRX on hard packed and on Ice.
 
I ran my bone stock 02 srx 700 vs my buddies bone stock 03 rx1 on lake of bays about 5 times.It was flat and hard,we were both unstudded.The race was always won by whoever got the holeshot.If we got out of the hole side by side the srx would ever so slightly pull away on topend.We ran for about a mile each time.
 
What i see around here at the lake srx will win there is
some strong rx1's also but i see srx's winning more (3000 feet) races.
 
The Rx1 is my competion and at first he was beating all the time until I figured out my clutches and now we are close. I think this year I will be giving him a very good challenge. Pat i know you've read this. ha ha ha whatch out here I come this year. couple of trick up my sleeve that are not on this site.
 
Things that helped me:

Camoplast #9830 track with 144 extreme max studs
Heel clicker clutch kit,bender helix
Good set of adjustable transfer rods
 
I would say SRX again, ecspecially if ported, stock SRX and stock Apex is a close run, SRX usually can squeek it out though from my expirence. I don't neccessarily know if the RX1 was the worst sled they ever made, it was no dream machine (but i've never ridden one so i can't honestly say) but it was a HUGE stepping stone to where the yamaha 4 strokes are now.
 
3:16 I don't think the SRX was the worst sled yamaha ever made ;).

Stk vs Stk...the SRX should eat an RX. It's much easier to make an SRX fast then it is an RX so even modded the SRX has a distinct advantage if we're dealing with equal tuners. The SRX being so low is a big advantage when lake racing....

I know with real race sleds an Apex is slightly quicker in 500'...and would hold the advantage right through to top end. But..in trail mode well setup SRX's are still hard to beat on the lake.
 
Anyone want to trade an RX1 for an SRX? I ran a couple RX1's with my 99 SRX and I did very well in the first 660 ft or so than They would get me buy a little 2 or 3 sled lenghts in a mile or so. I was running a low end clutch kit and 168 chissle pics and she was a really guick sled in it's day. I now own a RX1 but I am older, fatter and ride slower than back then so I guess for now I will try the RX1 with the better ride.

I was just givin' Tony alittle ribbin'...since I'm kinda partial to the RX lol. The RX is a better all around sled (IMO) but the SRX is faster...
 
Here is a non bia reply, I own both sleds, love them both, an 01 700,04 RX1. raced my wife last winter in our field, about 3/4 mile long or so. I was on the rx1 her on the srx.
down and back I beat her both times, so we switched, she beat me both times but it was much closer. RX1 prevailed, and the guy who said the rx1 was the worst sled yamaha ever made WTF? your out of your mind
