We are putting a new track on my buddies 99 srx700, we've never done this... What am i looking at time wise to get the old track off and the new one on? we got the tools and will follow instructions... we are gonna keep at it till its done. i've read on how to do it and can tackle it without problems as i am a mechanic... but just wondering on the order of removal and vise versa... on a scale of 1-10 what would this rate on the difficulty scale?

Gonna need some beer after this one

thanks

You need to remove the Chaincase, brakes. (First drain the chaincase...) Then remove secondary clutch, and the speedohousing on clutch side. lift the back of the sled up half a meter or so. Start by loosening the front screws for the skid, then the mid and then the rear screws on the skid. Now you can take the skid and front axle out and remove track.

You should look over the skid while it is out. New bushings and bearings. And put in a new drive axle bearing.

i would say the scale if from a 3-4... but how ever it can be a 11 if the bearing does not wanna come off the speedo side make sure that you get the set screws out they are on the backside of the bearing... once you have the secondary clutch off and the cain case off and the speedo bearing cover off you can slide the axel towards the clutch side and get to the set screws from there or just rotate it and get to them from in side of the tunnel... but like in my cse the bearing was stuck on the axel so... use some good penitrating oild and a pry bar going side to side till it pops off..... let us know how it goes... im always up for a good track change story

Use a bearing puller for the drive bearing, will make life alot easier, and should take about 2 to 3 hours

Well day 1 done of the track install, took about 5 hours to get the axle out... you guys make it all sound easy... Now tomorrow we will tackle getting the track in possiblly, we are replacing all the bearings on the clutch side.... Chaincase bearings are fine.... what a job! thought we could get away with trying to get the axle out without removing the chaincase housing, but in the end we had too....what a stupid design.

yep that sucks.... it all most wants to come out but with the angle it binds on the chaincase bearing.... my buddy didn't pull the cain case and got it out but he pulled the snapring on the inside of the chain case bearing and punched it back in to the chain case.... i tryed it but didn't want to mess up that bearing

here is an awesome hint to get the suspension back into the track

tilt the sled on its side and the skid is 10 times easier to get in and aligned to the bolt holes
