Wow, Tony ya think the SX is lighter than the 83 Vmax chassis??
Not argueing here, I just always thought that the early Vmax chassis were lighter than the newer, 87 & up Exciter chassis'.

3:16 Thats right on the srxe was a good fast sled for sure but one of the upgrades from yamaha at the time they changed out the crank and case replaced it with the 500f crank and case thats about all I seen of the 500 this side of the border that seemed to slow my 440 down a bit.

I found an 87 540 on eBay. I was thinking of buying and preping for my son, has anyone ever seen a Vmax 540 with a long track, long travel suspension? He currently has a Phazer long track, How do you think the 540 would compare? I know more power which he needs, I have always liked the looks of the old 540.
Sx Vs 540???
Get your son an SX!
My younger bro has a 84 Vmax540, I installed a set of PSI duals, the round slide off of my 1991 Exciter 2 LE, not running the coolant lines. I have a 93SX that I installed a set of PSI duals, removed the oil pump, lines, resevoir, running premix. New rings, gaskets, inspected the crank etc. Running 122-125 psi cranking compression. Mountain Max clutches, I geared down to 17 X 33 but will be going back to 19 X 33 or 19 X 31, running stock spring and weights in the primary. Hit 90 mph @ 8400 rpm track speed. I am running a 136 X 1.25 track. We race and I take the 540 but she needs some serious tuning. I had to pull the original carbs off, she would not run. Any idea what engagement should be on the 540? What weights for a comet?
I bet properly tuned, the Vmax may show up the SX?? Right now I can take my bro's 2004 AC SNO Pro 440 Mod on race gas!

I really like your Exciter bluepsylo! I had an 89 with a DG pipe which was also long track, it had the bender porting, and running 44mm round slides. It was a rocket back in the day. My son really likes his phazer long track, but wants more power. My buddy has an exciter II all stock and my boys Phazer will take him on any snow we have tested for 1/4 mile then the exciter will over power. weight differance per driver 100 lbs.
