Well, i finally got to test out the sled on snow today.
My setup is as follows.
04 Viper Mtn
Speedwerx Triple Pipes with Stingers
Stock head (for now)
Carb setup:
165MJ
45PJ
FS 1 7/8 out
Stock Needle
Clip in 5th position
Temp was about 25degrees F.
I will be jetting for about 0-25 deg....
I was running real rich (plugs were wet) at 1/8 to mid throttle. Speed pickup was slow. Engine sounded as if it was burbling. After i got on to about 1/2-WFO, burbling went away, seemed to pull real hard. So i think the MJ is close enough for now. I feel my issue is on the needle jet circuit.
As for plug color, clutch and center were wet around the threads, but were just carbony black on the electrode and ceramic. The Mag side was carbony but a chocolate brown.
Any suggestions for my setup? I am going to put on the Speedwerx billet head with 12:1 domes next week, but would like to get a little closer with my jetting before I do that. Does it sounds as if i am way off?
Also any explanation why the mag side was so different? I figured that was the high compression cylinder.... am i right?
Jetting before the pipes was (but never ran it with this setup because i just bought the sled)

Your set up is about the same as mine with bender pipes. I have the modded head from benders. My carbs are stock exept for 165 mains and 55 pilots, 2 turns on the fuel screws. At the temp your running it will be rich. My set up is for -20 to -30c. At -30c the dcs blinks on a long run, but it sure flies. I would think you could go leaner on the mains. But it will depend on the altitude also.

I personally would run a fatter pilot(47.5/50) and lean out your needle. Im not a fan of running the highest needle setting when all it take is a pilot change. Just my .02

yep, try just raising your needle (from stock pos 3), to like 3-1/2 or 4. i would try 47.5 pilots and 2-1/8 turns on the fuel screws. leave mains alone for now.

Sweet. Thanks for the replys guys... Were getting more and more snow here, so maybe i can take it out tomarrow if time allows and give it a try...

actually, try your needles in stock pos. shouldn't need to go any fatter than 1/2 clip richer, but try stock pos 1st w/mains how they are and pilots bumped to 47.5 and fuel screws @ 2-1/8

We have about 6 inches here in houghton, but i dragged the sled out to painsdale, which is about 1100 feet and ran it where there was a little more snow... I guess more is forcasted this week... Not enough snow for the trails but definitely enough to mess around in the yard a little...

Well i took it out today again. Can someone please see how the plugs look in these photos? The 1/2 throttlw chop was the frirst 5-6 pictures, then WOT chop next 5-6 pictures, the 1/8 throttle chop are the last pics... All seemed to be real chocolatly brown.

Also to add, sled ran between 9000 and 9100 RPMS at WOT. I am pretty sure this is right where Speedwerx recommends clutching these pipes.

you are plenty safe. also, you're running correct rpms. looks like you will be fine down to 0 deg ferenheit. have fun.

you should be able to drop down to 47.5 pilots and drop needles to stock position. did you try 47.5 pilots and stock needle position? then again, if it ain't fouling plugs, so what if it chews on extra fuel right? especially if you're satisfied w/the performance.

where can i obtain some 47.5 pilots? My dealer could only get 45's or 50's.... that is why i am running 50's.... I haven;t check fuel consumption, hopfully i can ride a ways this weekend... We are getting hammered with snow right now...
order them for a 99 srx 600, They are stock for tha model in cylinders 1 & 2.
dirtjumper, what does the wash look like on the piston tops? I wouldnt be so quick to lean out your needles like others have suggested, vipers need fuel in the midrange with pipes, the nozzles and needles are leaner in a viper. The viper also uses more midrange ign timing.
What does speedwerx give you for a base set up?
I see a few things from your pics, but your using old trail ridden plugs and they have alot of oil/carbon build up on them with water drops.
maybe to help you see where you are, you can lookin the FAQ section,theres a piston jetting/plugs/piston wash pics to look at.

Ive read some people swapping SRX noozles and needles into thier Piped Viper. Now with you riching the noozles and needles, does this mean you be able to lean out on your needle and pilot settings?

lol.... the reason there was water drops on the plugs is because the mag 1/2 throttle chop plug got dropped down into the engine bay, and it hit a little snowdust. I am goign to keep the needles rich, for now that is.
Speedwerx did not give a base setup.
I will install new plugs on tomarrow's ride, and will post up some more chops...

took it out on a 40 mile ride tonight.... no seizure so thats always a plus... Seemed to burble in the mid some, pulled real clean up top. I leaned out the needle 1 washer so half a position, will comment back tomorrow after the ride...
