I cant fit sliders thru windos of track. I was thinking of removing the skid plate half way by flipping the sled on its side and removing the two bolts ( just under seat material) and loosen the front just a bit to let the skid plate rotate out when sled is on its side, to give better access to sliders. Is this common practice with out some kind of lift?
Just looking for some feed back, if any one knows some KEY words to search the fourms this would be great help. I just dont seem to know the termenoligy very well.
I guess I will have to loosen the two leather straps on the skid plate as well, to allow the track to move to the side's at the back, just enough room to slide sliders past the track . Visa Versa for other side.
THis is my plan of attack if this isnt a good idea can some one let me know, I wont be trying this for a few days. untill I have some feed back
THanks

That sure does sound like a lot of work.
I would simply pull the skid, and go over it to make sure all the bearings are good. When was the last time that was done? It is good preventative maintenance that might save you some down time during the riding season.

Im not planning on taking them out the front, this would send the sliders up to the motor in the tunnel, right? was just thinking of loosening the track and slide them out the back with the track just off to the side.
TopGunn : are you saying take the 3rd bolt out too and remove the whole skid plate?

there is a new track on the sled just bought it 3 weeks ago, not to horny on cutting the track. I have been warned buy the ppl. I am riding with thats not a good Idea to cut the track?
So is it just the 3 bolts per side I have to take out to get the skid plate out? and then it slides right out?

I think he meant the whole skid.

I think there was some confusion with the term"skid plate". I was thinking the same about taking them out the front when i read your original post. just loosen the track all the way take out the 6 bolts and the skid should come right out. When you put it back in install the two front bolts first in the front arm. Next install the two rear bolts. After you get those 4 installed jack up the back of the sled and the middle two should be easy to get lined up. That is the way I always put mine together and it worked great. Good luck

ya dropping the skid would be the best idea ....cause ill bet money that it will need upper and lower w arm bushings ...if it was not done when the track was put on ....olny 3 bolts on each side to hold skid in sled 2 on the tunnel and the third one is hidden behind the foot well ...there is a rubber plug on the side of the sled in the plastic to access this bolt ....plus the skid should come out without having to loosen the rear axle ..and i just fliped my skid over used a fine peice emroy cloth to sand corossion from rails ...and liquid dish soap the rails and slider will go on much easier ...

Why fight it is my thought.

Yes, terminology should read 'skid frame', not 'skid plate'. If you take any of the rear suspension mount bolts out, be sure to use loctite when you put them back in.

Here is a good piece of advice. It seems like a bit of work but it is probably worth it. Give it a good once over before you hit the trails.

well, this sucks. loosened the track, started to take out the 2 rear bolts of the 6 and this is as far as I got.
Why is the bolt on the throtle side just spining? The left side came out, dropped 1/2 inch and the other side just spinns and not coming out. looked and played. put the other bolt back in, Stripped the axle. mehh
I dont want to take out the rest or, do I have to to get this one out ??

Can you post a pic of the rear of sled , snowflap up & level to the bottom of the track...like thisSwuff said:there is a new track on the sled just bought it 3 weeks ago, not to horny on cutting the track. I have been warned buy the ppl. I am riding with thats not a good Idea to cut the track?

All I do is remove front screw, take flat screwdriver work slide loose, line up track window at the rear to the slide & take flat screwdriver and keep prying the slide back until I can grab the slide with pair of vise-grips I modified with threaded rod & added a slide hammer weight to the rod...works slick, couple smacks & its out...sometimes a little spray on the slides at the rails help in removal...

Ouch, if it is stripped, then you have to replace it.

you cant get the front one out ??? spinning the shaft ?? olny break it loose and than go to the other side and break it loose ...i had problems with the front 2 bolts just spinning ....

just crack one bolt loose, then re-tighten SNUG. then go to the other side...crack that loose, back to the 1st bolt....loosen a few turns.....back to 2nd bolt...loosten a few turns...then you should be able to remove both with out the shaft spinning......
when removing slides, easiest way i have found is to remove front bolt from slide rail. with a large flathead screwdriver pry the front of the hyfax through the closest window of the track. work the hyfax by carefully prying between the hyfax and rail. once the hyfax is through the window turn the track by using a prybar on the drivers. the track will "peel" the hyfax off the rail super easy. as far as installation with the track as loose as you can get it, you should be able to slide the hyfax through the window at an angle and get it lined up with the rail. as others have mentioned use some wd40/soap/whatever you have handy to help lube the rails and hyfax. once the dove tail is aligned CAREFULLY and very slowly tap the back end of the hyfax with a dead blow hammer.....it should slide in fairly easy even with the smaller window tracks. be very carefull when tapping slide that the front edge stays in contact with the rail.
