Ethanol Industry

I liked this part:

Tom Elam, an Indiana-based agricultural economist who has long been a critic of the corn ethanol industry, says the bankruptcy of VeraSun should not be a surprise to anyone who has watched the farm sector. “We have never see the government intervene before in such a heavy way in any agricultural commodity as they have in the corn ethanol sector,” said Elam. “The government has mandated the use of a fuel that is totally uneconomic. It can’t be produced at a profit. And now the entire sector is in turmoil.”

I saw this coming along time ago at the advent of the ethanol scam - its demise is coming sooner than I thought - sad part is that all of the ethanol plants that will be setting around empty in 5-10 years will have ALOT of OUR tax money in them and the whores that made it all happen will have some fat pockets - just another American fleece job!!
 
Bio fuel is a good idea but using food crops as the source isn't too brainy.
There's technology using switch grass that is promising and the cool thing about those crops are they're indiginous (sp?), require no maintainence and don't take away from the food crops.

Methane powered generators at landills and from aninmal waste like dairy farms are other great bio fuel sources. There are a ton of technologies out there, there won't be a single silver bullet but a bunch of options will contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption.

Exactly...

I deal with the ethanol industry, as an OEM for pollution control equipment.

Making ethanol from non food crops such as Algae are a real viable source to make ethanol from. Using corn wasn't the best idea, but ti was perhaps the easiest at the time.


We have a little something up our sleeves as far as generators (100 kwh) being utilized to mmake a lot of energy from heat byproduct.
 
They are now making ethanol from corn fodder. Has anyone noticed corn is down to 4 bucks because of bumper crops. HUH you don't see them dropping food prices or telling you that. Its all in what they want to tell you. Maxdlx
 
I'm going to write about the CARBON FOOTPRINT left on the earth and the FACT that is TWICE AS DAMAGING as originally predicted!!!! OH MY GOD,,, what a BAD IDEA.... I will also write about BOVINE FLATULENCE destroying the atmosphere because of the "less than adequate" nourishment they are getting from the CORN and also the decomposition of all that unused "stalk" that decomposes... You guys are going to think that I AM A TREE HUGGER....... more will be revealed..... Gary Oles nosboy

Unfortunately the corn fodder does not yield as much ethanol as algae and other sources.

The industry will figure this all out. It has to do with making new technology more affordable.
