There's technology using switch grass that is promising and the cool thing about those crops are they're indiginous (sp?), require no maintainence and don't take away from the food crops.
Methane powered generators at landills and from aninmal waste like dairy farms are other great bio fuel sources. There are a ton of technologies out there, there won't be a single silver bullet but a bunch of options will contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption.
